Adkins, Texas
Adkins is an unincorporated community in eastern Bexar County, Texas, United States. It is located within the Greater San Antonio metropolitan area. History Adkins started out as a flag station on the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway in the 1880s and was named for William Adkins Jones, who was given a land grant for the depot and switchyard that would develop there. A post office was established at Adkins in 1896. There were two churches and 100 people in the community in 1910, which went up to 150 in 1940 with four businesses. Its growth continued with San Antonio developing into a major city, with 241 residents and 32 businesses in 1990. Adkins is home to Texas Pride Barbecue, where the season 3 finale of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives was filmed. Buffalo Bayou, Brazos And Colorado Railway
The Buffalo Bayou, Brazos, and Colorado Railway (B.B.B.C. or B.B.B. & C.), also called the Harrisburg Road or Harrisburg Railroad, was the first operating railroad in Texas. It completed its first segment of track between Harrisburg, Texas (now a neighborhood of Houston) and Stafford's Point, Texas in 1853. The company established a western terminus at Alleyton, Texas prior to the Civil War. The railroad was sold after the war and reincorporated as the Galveston, Harrisburg, & San Antonio Railroad. This right of way was acquired by the Southern Pacific Railroad and is today a property of the Union Pacific Railroad. 2014–15 Incarnate Word Cardinals Men's Basketball Team
The 2014–15 Incarnate Word Cardinals men's basketball team represented the University of the Incarnate Word during the 2014–15 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Cardinals were led by ninth year head coach Ken Burmeister and played their home games at McDermott Convocation Center. They were members of the Southland Conference. This was year 2 of a 4-year transitional period for Incarnate Word from DII to DI. During year 2 they will play a normal conference schedule. They are DI for scheduling purposes and are also to be considered as a DI RPI member. Although Incarnate Word was classified as a DI school for scheduling purposes in years 2–4 and can win the regular season conference title, they cannot participate in the conference tournament until the 2017–18 season, at which time they will also be able to enter the NCAA Tournament, should they win the conference. Loop 1604 is the outer highway loop encircling San Antonio, Texas, spanning approximately . Originally constructed as a two-lane highway, the northern segment of the route, from US 90 in western San Antonio to Kitty Hawk Road in northeastern Bexar County, has been upgraded to a four-lane freeway. Loop 1604 is designated the Charles W. Anderson Loop in honor of former Bexar County Judge Charles W. Anderson, who died from cancer in 1964 after serving for 25 years. Route description Loop 1604 forms a complete loop around the city of San Antonio and is the outer of two loops around the city with I-410 being the inner loop.
