Adel Nassief
Adel Nassief ( ar, عادل نصيف; 20 October 1962 – 19 March 2021) was a Coptic painter specializing in Coptic art. He has some work on display on the external wall of a Coptic church in Paris and some work in the Cairo modern art museum and in Coptic churches in Damanhour and Alexandria. He drew the illustrations in the book First Christmas by Alastair Macdonald. He received a bachelor of fine arts, Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University Department of Painting with General Grade Very Good with high Honours 1985. He then did specialised studies in Coptic Art and Icons at the Institute of Coptic Studies, Cairo. Nassief died on 19 March 2021, at the age of 58, after contracting COVID-19. Beheira Governorate
Beheira Governorate ( ar, محافظة البحيرة ', , "the governorate of the Lake") is a coastal governorate in Egypt. Located in the northern part of the country in the Nile Delta, its capital is Damanhur. Coptic Iconography
Coptic art is the Christian art of the Byzantine-Greco-Roman Egypt and of Coptic Christian Churches. Coptic art is best known for its wall-paintings, textiles, illuminated manuscripts, and metalwork, much of which survives in monasteries and churches. The artwork is often functional, as little distinction was drawn between artistry and craftsmanship, and includes tunics and tombstones as well as portraits of saints. An icon () is a religious work of art, most commonly a painting, in the cultures of the Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Catholic churches. They are not simply artworks; "an icon is a sacred image used in religious devotion". The most common subjects include Christ, Mary, saints and angels. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by a virus, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
