Addison C. Niles
Addison Cook Niles (July 22, 1832 – January 17, 1890) was an attorney and served as Nevada County judge in California from 1862–1871 and as associate justice on the Supreme Court of California from 1872–1880. Biography Addison Cook Niles was born in Rensselaerville, New York to John Niles (1797 – 1872) and Mary Cook (1803 – 1873). Niles had two younger brothers: John Hamiton Niles and Charles Mumford Niles; and six sisters: Laura Niles, Cornelia Deborah Niles, Mary Corinthia Niles, Henrietta Amelia Niles, and Emily Harriet Niles. In 1852, Niles graduated from Williams College and began reading law in the office of Increase Sumner at Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and with Rufus King at Catskill, New York. California Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of California is the highest and final court of appeals in the courts of the U.S. state of California. Thomas Bard McFarland
Thomas Bard McFarland (April 19, 1828 – September 16, 1908) was a miner, politician and judge in the U.S. state of California. He served as a California State Assembly, state assemblyman, Superior Courts of California, Superior Court judge, and associate justice of the Supreme Court of California. Biography McFarland was born in 1828 near Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Franklin & Marshall College, Marshall College (1846) and soon thereafter reading law, studied law with his cousin, Robert M. Bard, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He was admitted to practice in 1849. Instead of commencing practice, however, he headed to California, arriving September 1850, and was a gold miner for three years. Placer County ( ; Spanish for "sand deposit"), officially the County of Placer, is a county in the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 404,739. Niles Canyon
Niles Canyon is a canyon in the San Francisco Bay Area formed by Alameda Creek, known for its heritage railroad and silent movie history. The canyon is largely in an unincorporated area of Alameda County, while the western portion of the canyon lies within the city limits of Fremont and Union City. The stretch of State Route 84 known as Niles Canyon Road traverses the length of the canyon from the Niles district of Fremont to the unincorporated town of Sunol. Vallejo Flour Mill
The first Vallejo Flour Mill, in the Niles district of Fremont, California, was built in 1853 by José de Jesús Vallejo (1798–1882), elder brother of General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, on his Rancho Arroyo de la Alameda. The Flour Mill was located at the mouth of Niles Canyon, then called ''Alameda Cañon'', which served as the major course of Alameda Creek. A second Flour Mill was built in 1856, the stone foundation of which may still be seen today. The ruins of the Vallejo Flour Mill is located at the northeast corner of Niles Canyon Road ( State Route 84) and Mission Boulevard ( State Route 238) in Vallejo Mill Historical Park.
