Adamstown Heights
Adamstown Heights is a southern suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, located west-southwest of Newcastle's central business district along the Pacific Highway. It is split between the City of Lake Macquarie and City of Newcastle local government areas. On 6 September 1991 Adamstown heights officially become a suburb of Newcastle. The Awabakal are the traditional people of this area. The suburb contains two schools, Kotara High School, established in 1968 and containing 3 hectares of native bushland, and also established in 1968 Belair Public School. The suburb is served by Westfield Kotara shopping centre, formerly Garden City Kotara, and originally Kotara Fair, on its northern border. Adamstown Railway Station, New South Wales
Adamstown railway station is located on the Main Northern railway line, Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the southern Newcastle, New South Wales, Newcastle suburb of Adamstown, New South Wales, Adamstown, and was opened on 15 August 1887. As part of the electrification of the line in the early 1980s, new station buildings were built, the western relief line and Platform 3 removed, and the 1939 built signal box on Platform 1 that used to control movements to the Belmont line decommissioned on 4 December 1983. Until December 1991, the Belmont railway line, New South Wales, Belmont line diverged to the south-east of the station. Central Coast & Newcastle Line
The Central Coast & Newcastle Line is a NSW TrainLink passenger train service that runs along the Main North railway line in New South Wales, connecting the state's two largest cities, Sydney and Newcastle. The service runs from through to on the Main North railway line to Newcastle Interchange on the Newcastle railway line, and services the Hawkesbury River region, the Central Coast and the city of Newcastle. Description of route The route traverses the Main West and Main South railway line routes until Strathfield, where it diverts north and follows the route of the Main North line until Broadmeadow, before diverting east along the route of the Newcastle branch line. Westfield Kotara
Westfield Kotara (previously known as Kotara Fair and Garden City) is a large shopping centre in the suburb of Kotara in Newcastle. Transport Kotara station is 800 metres away from Westfield Kotara and is on the Main Northern railway line. The station is serviced by NSW TrainLink services which operate between Sydney and Newcastle. Westfield Kotara is served by Newcastle Transport bus services to Broadmeadow, Charlestown, Swansea Heads, Wallsend and Warners Bay, as well as local surrounding suburbs. Awabakal
The Awabakal people , are those Aboriginal Australians who identify with or are descended from the Awabakal tribe and its clans, Indigenous to the coastal area of what is now known as the Hunter Region of New South Wales. Their traditional territory spread from Wollombi in the west, to the Lower Hunter River near Newcastle and Lake Macquarie in the north. The name Kuringgai, also written Guringai, has often been used as a collective denominator of the Awabakal and several other tribes in this belt, but Norman Tindale has challenged it as an arbitrary coinage devised by ethnologist John Fraser in 1892. For Tindale, Kuringgai was synonymous with Awabakal. Arthur Capell however asserted that there was indeed evidence for a distinct Kuringgai language, which, in Tindale's schema, would imply they were a distinct people from the Awabakal. City Of Lake Macquarie
The City of Lake Macquarie is a local government area in Greater Newcastle and part of the Hunter Region in New South Wales, Australia. It was proclaimed a city from 7 September 1984. Pacific Highway (Australia)
Pacific Highway is a national highway and major transport route along the central east coast of Australia, with the majority of it being part of Australia's Highway 1. The highway and its adjoining Pacific Motorway between Brisbane and Brunswick Heads and Pacific Motorway between Sydney and Newcastle links the state capitals of Sydney in New South Wales with Brisbane in Queensland, approximately paralleling the Tasman Sea of the South Pacific Ocean coast, via Gosford, Newcastle, Taree, Port Macquarie, Kempsey, Coffs Harbour, Grafton, and Ballina.
