Westfield Kotara
Westfield Kotara (previously known as Kotara Fair and Garden City) is a large shopping centre in the suburb of Kotara in Newcastle. Transport Kotara station is 800 metres away from Westfield Kotara and is on the Main Northern railway line. The station is serviced by NSW TrainLink services which operate between Sydney and Newcastle. Westfield Kotara is served by Newcastle Transport bus services to Broadmeadow, Charlestown, Swansea Heads, Wallsend and Warners Bay, as well as local surrounding suburbs. The majority of its bus services are located on Park Avenue outside the centre. Westfield Kotara has multi-level car parks with around 4000 spaces. The complex has walk in entry available via the bus stop, as well as an entry way via the park at the rear of the facility. Kotara
Kotara is a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, located from Newcastle's central business district. It is part of the City of Newcastle local government area. Kotara is known as one of Newcastle's largest retail destinations and is characterised by its family centred culture. History The Aboriginal people, in this area, the Awabakal, were the first people of this land. In the late 19th century the Australasia Coal Company operated a mine near Kotara, in the valley below the present-day northern entrance to Tickhole Tunnel. A private railway connected the screens with the Government line near the present-day triangle junctions north of Broadmeadow. Surveying for the line commenced in 1875 and the line was completed in April 1877. However, only a total of 9,052 tons was ever produced and the company went into liquidation in June 1879. Venture was a chain of discount department stores that operated in Australia between 1970 and 1994. Unrelated to the defunct North American chain of the same name (see Venture Stores), Venture is best remembered as a retailer of medium quality women's and children's clothing as well as soft homewares.
