Gastropod Shell
The gastropod shell is part of the body of a Gastropoda, gastropod or snail, a kind of mollusc. The shell is an exoskeleton, which protects from predators, mechanical damage, and dehydration, but also serves for muscle attachment and calcium storage. Some gastropods appear shell-less (slugs) but may have a remnant within the mantle, or in some cases the shell is reduced such that the body cannot be retracted within it (semi-slug). Some snails also possess an operculum that seals the opening of the shell, known as the Aperture (mollusc), aperture, which provides further protection. The study of mollusc shells is known as conchology. The biological study of gastropods, and other molluscs in general, is malacology. Shell morphology terms vary by species group. Shell layers The gastropod shell has three major layers secreted by the Mantle (mollusc), mantle. The calcareous central layer, tracum, is typically made of calcium carbonate precipitated into an organic matrix known as c ...

Mollusk
Mollusca is the second-largest phylum of invertebrate animals after the Arthropoda, the members of which are known as molluscs or mollusks (). Around 85,000  extant species of molluscs are recognized. The number of fossil species is estimated between 60,000 and 100,000 additional species. The proportion of undescribed species is very high. Many taxa remain poorly studied. Molluscs are the largest marine phylum, comprising about 23% of all the named marine organisms. Numerous molluscs also live in freshwater and terrestrial habitats. They are highly diverse, not just in size and anatomical structure, but also in behaviour and habitat. The phylum is typically divided into 7 or 8  taxonomic classes, of which two are entirely extinct. Cephalopod molluscs, such as squid, cuttlefish, and octopuses, are among the most neurologically advanced of all invertebrates—and either the giant squid or the colossal squid is the largest known invertebrate species. The gas ...

Nakhon Ratchasima
Nakhon Ratchasima ( th, นครราชสีมา, ) is one of the four major cities of Isan, Thailand, known as the "big four of Isan". The city is commonly known as Korat (, ), a shortened form of its name. It is the governmental seat of the Nakhon Ratchasima province and Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima district. After Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Korat is the third largest city in Thailand. Korat is at the western edge of the Korat Plateau. Historically, it once marked the boundary between Lao and Siam territory. It is the gateway to the Lao-speaking northeast (Isan). Its location is . , the municipal area - as a small part of Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima - had a population of 126,391, while the Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima district, forming Korat's urban area, has a population of 450,000 (Estimate 2022). Toponymy Archaeological evidence suggests that in Sung Noen District 32 km west of present-day Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) there were two ancient towns called ''Sema'' (" Bai sema ...

Type Locality (biology)
In biology, a type is a particular specimen (or in some cases a group of specimens) of an organism to which the scientific name of that organism is formally attached. In other words, a type is an example that serves to anchor or centralizes the defining features of that particular taxon. In older usage (pre-1900 in botany), a type was a taxon rather than a specimen. A taxon is a scientifically named grouping of organisms with other like organisms, a set that includes some organisms and excludes others, based on a detailed published description (for example a species description) and on the provision of type material, which is usually available to scientists for examination in a major museum research collection, or similar institution. Type specimen According to a precise set of rules laid down in the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) and the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN), the scientific name of every taxon is almost a ...

List Of Non-marine Molluscs Of Vietnam
The non-marine molluscs of Vietnam are a part of the molluscan fauna of Vietnam (wildlife of Vietnam). A number of species of non-marine mollusks are found in the wild in Vietnam. There are good reasons to suppose that Vietnam, with a surface of 332,000 km2, a large variety of habitats, and many different limestone 'islands' that differ from each other in faunal composition, will have a rich diversity of terrestrial molluscs. Numerous non-marine mollusc species, including more than 850 species of land gastropods, have been described from the country but many others still await discovery and description. Freshwater gastropods Freshwater gastropods in Vietnam include: Neritidae * ''Neritina violacea'' Ampullariidae * '' Pila polita'' * ''Pila conica'' * ''Pila ampullacea'' * '' Pomacea canaliculata'' * '' Pomacea insularum'' (d'Orbigny, 1835) Viviparidae * ''Cipangopaludina lecythoides'' * '' Idiopoma umblicata'' * ''Sinotaia aeruginosa'' * ''Mekongia lithoph ...

Laos is landlocked country, so there are no marine molluscs. Almost all groups of the land snail fauna in Laos have been less-well studied than those of neighbouring areas.
