Adam Spencer (curler)
Adam Spencer, nicknamed "Crusher" (born July 11, 1972) is a Canadian curler from Guelph, Ontario. Career Juniors In 1992, Spencer skipped a team consisting of Greg Robinson, Jeff Robinson and Nolan Sims to a provincial junior title. This qualified the rink to represent Ontario at the 1992 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. There, he led his Ontario rink to a 6-5 round robin record. This put them in a three-way tie for third place. They would go on to lose their tie breaker match against Saskatchewan's Scott Bitz. Men's After juniors, Spencer won a provincial Colts championship in 1994. He would be a skip for much of his early men's career, including going to his first Provincial championship in 1996, where he led his team to a 5–4 record and his second in 2003, where he led his team to a 1-8 record. Guelph ( ; 2021 Canadian Census population 143,740) is a city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. Known as "The Royal City", Guelph is roughly east of Kitchener and west of Downtown Toronto, at the intersection of Highway 6, Highway 7 and Wellington County Road 124. It is the seat of Wellington County, but is politically independent of it. Guelph began as a settlement in the 1820s, established by Scotsman John Galt, who was in Upper Canada as the first Superintendent of the Canada Company. He based the headquarters, and his home, in the community. The area – much of which became Wellington County – had been part of the Halton Block, a Crown Reserve for the Six Nations Iroquois. 2010 Ontario Men's Curling Championship
The 2010 Ontario Men's Curling Championship was held February 1-7th, 2010 at the Strathcona Paper Centre in Napanee. Eleven teams participated. It marked the first year that the defending champion (Glenn Howard's rink) would get an automatic berth. Winner Glenn Howard went on to represent Ontario at the 2010 Tim Hortons Brier in Halifax, Nova Scotia, losing in the final to Kevin Koe's Alberta rink. 2015 GSOC Tour Challenge
The 2015 GSOC Tour Challenge was held from September 8 to 13 at the Paradise Double Ice Complex in Paradise, Newfoundland and Labrador. It was the first Grand Slam event of the 2015–16 curling season for both the men's and women's World Curling Tour. In the tier 1 events, Kevin Koe defeated Brad Gushue on the men's side, Koe's fourth slam title. On the women's side, Silvana Tirinzoni won her first slam by upsetting Rachel Homan in the final. the tier 2 winners Jim Cotter and Kerri Einarson both qualified for the 2015 The Masters Grand Slam of Curling. Glenn Howard
Glenn William Howard (born July 17, 1962) is a Canadian curler who is one of the most decorated curlers of all time. He has won four world championships, four Briers and 17 Ontario provincial championships, including a record eight straight, from 2006 to 2013. Through 2017, he has played in 218 games at the Brier, more than any other curler in history. He has also won the 2001 TSN Skins Game. Career Juniors Howard lost two straight Ontario Junior Championship finals in 1980 and 1981, skipping a rink out of Midland, Ontario. In both events there were no playoffs, but a tie for first place after the round robin forced a tiebreaker. In 1980 he lost to John Kawaja and in 1981, he lost to John Base. Brent Ross
Brent Ross (born September 30, 1970) is a Canadian curler from Harriston, Ontario. He currently plays third for Team Dayna Deruelle on the World Curling Tour. Career Early in his career, Ross won the Ontario Colts Championship in 1997. Ross skipped his own rink on the World Curling Tour until 2007, when he joined the Jake Higgs rink, playing third on the team for the 2007–08 season, and then throwing fourth rocks (with Higgs throwing third) until 2014. The team played in their first Grand Slam of Curling event at the 2010 Players' Championship, where they lost all of their games. The next season, they played in the 2010 World Cup of Curling (now known as the Masters), going 2-3 and at the January 2011 Canadian Open, going 2-3 again. 2014 Travelers Tankard
The 2014 Travelers Tankard, southern Ontario's men's provincial curling championship, was held from January 27 to February 2 at the Smiths Falls Community Memorial Centre in Smiths Falls, Ontario. The winning Mark Bice team (skipped by Greg Balsdon) represented Ontario at the 2014 Tim Hortons Brier in Kamloops, British Columbia. Teams *Mark Bice skipped the team through the Zone and Regional playdowns, and thus the team was named after him. Greg Balsdon returned to the lineup as Skip for the Provincial Championship after missing 2 months due to injury. The team plays as a 5-man squad regularly during the Tour season. 2013 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials – Road To The Roar
The qualification event for the 2013 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials (branded as the Capital One Road to the Roar for sponsorship reasons), was held from November 5 to 10 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex in Kitchener, Ontario. The top two finishers of the men's and women's events qualified to participate in the 2013 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. The teams played in a triple-knockout tournament where four teams qualified for the playoff round. The first two qualifiers and second two qualifiers played against each other, and the winner of the first game advanced to the Trials. The loser of the first game then played the winner of the second game to determine the second team that would advance to the Trials. John Epping
John Allan Epping (born March 20, 1983) is a Canadian curler from Toronto, Ontario. He currently skips his own team out of the Leaside Curling Club in East York, Toronto. Career Born in Peterborough, Ontario, Epping was a top junior curler, having won the Ontario Junior championship in 2004. At the 2004 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, his team finished with an 8-4 record, just out of the playoffs. He won the 2006 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship with Julie Reddick, Scott Foster and Leigh Armstrong. He won the 2007 provincial mixed as well, but could not defend his national title. After Juniors, Epping played third for Nick Rizzo until switching positions with Rizzo in 2006, and thus skipping the team. However, in 2007 he was picked up to play third for Olympic silver medallist Mike Harris. He'd only play one season for Harris before joining Wayne Middaugh's rink at second in 2008. The 2013 Dominion Tankard, southern Ontario's men's provincial curling championship, was held from February 4 to 10 at the Barrie Molson Centre in Barrie, Ontario. The winning team of Glenn Howard will represent Ontario at the 2013 Tim Hortons Brier in Edmonton, Alberta. Howard won his 15th provincial championship, and continued his record 8th straight title by defeating Joe Frans in the final. Robert Rumfeldt
Robert "Rob" Rumfeldt (born February 18, 1966 in Windsor, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Guelph. Rumfeldt was a member of the 1996 Ontario provincial championship team, when he played second for Bob Ingram. As of 2015, Rumfeldt has played in ten provincial men's championships. A longtime second, Rumfeldt began skipping his own team for the 2009-10 season. In addition to winning the 1996 provincial men's championship, Rumfeldt has also won the 1994 provincial mixed championship (with Ingram) on a team that included his wife Paulinka, and the 1994 Silver Tankard. 1996 Brier Rumfeldt won the provincial championship in 1996, playing second for Bob Ingram's Ridgetown Curling Club rink which also consisted of Larry Smyth (third) and James Brackett (lead). It was Rumfeldt's only career men's provincial title. The team finished with a record of 4-7, in 10th place, one of the worst records ever for Ontario.
