Action Civique Montréal
Action civique Montréal (ACM) was a municipal political party that existed from 2009 to 2010 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The party fielded five candidates in the 2009 Montreal municipal election, all of whom ran in the borough of Saint-Leonard. ACM's leader was Italo Barone, who was also its candidate for borough mayor. Platform ACM advocated the devolution of municipal services from the City of Montreal to Saint-Leonard. In announcing the party's formation, Barone said that he was open to the possibility of withdrawing Saint-Leonard from Montreal and returning the community to its pre-2001 status as a separate municipality. Party leader Italo Barone is a Montreal entrepreneur. Michel Bissonnet
Michel Bissonnet, MNA (born March 28, 1942) is a Canadian politician who served as Liberal member and President (House Speaker) of the National Assembly of Quebec. Background Bissonnet obtained a license in law at Université de Montréal in 1976 and was admitted to the Barreau du Québec the following year. Prior to his years as a lawyer, he worked for the City of Montreal for 17 years in various positions including archivist and assistant office manager. NDP candidate Bissonnet was formerly involved in the federal New Democratic Party and its Quebec wing, the defunct Nouveau Parti démocratique du Québec. Union Montreal (french: Union Montréal) is an inactive municipal political party in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was the governing party in the city from 2001, when it won its first election under mayor Gérald Tremblay, until 2012. Gérald Tremblay
Gérald Tremblay (born September 20, 1942) is a former Canadian politician and businessman who served as mayor of Montreal from 2002 until his resignation in 2012. He also served as president of the Montreal Metropolitan Community. Before becoming mayor he had a long career in business and management. Tremblay resigned as Mayor on November 5, 2012 following allegations of corruption made at the Charbonneau Commission. Early life and career Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Tremblay grew up in Montreal, where his family moved when he was four years old. Pierre Bourque (born 29 May 1942) is a businessman and politician in Quebec, Canada. He founded the Vision Montreal political party and served as mayor of Montreal from 1994 to 2001. The 2001 Montreal municipal election took place on November 4, 2001, to elect a mayor and city councillors in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Gérald Tremblay defeated incumbent Pierre Bourque to become mayor of the newly amalgamated city. This was the only municipal election that was held for the amalgamated city (the amalgamation took effect on January 1, 2002), as the next municipal election was for the defused city. The Parti Municipal (PM) was a political party that existed from 1990 to 2001 in the suburban community of Saint-Leonard in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It dominated the city's political life throughout its existence. Origins The Parti Municipal emerged from a split in mayor Raymond Renaud's governing Ralliement de Saint-Léonard (RdSL) party in May 1988, when Frank Zampino and seven other RdSL councillors resigned to sit as independents. Zampino's rebel group formed a majority on council and dominated its legislative activities for the next two years, even though Renaud continued to serve as mayor. Zampino formally created the Parti Municipal to contest the 1990 municipal election. He defeated Renaud in the mayoral contest, and the party won ten out of twelve seats on council. Frank Zampino
Frank Zampino is a former Montreal politician and is a chartered accountant. He served as the Chairman of the executive committee of the Ville de Montréal and was the city's second-ranking official. Early life In 1976, Zampino graduated from Laurier Macdonald High School, an English-language public school in the east end of Montreal. Career Pre-merger After studies in accountancy, Zampino served as City Councillor in Saint-Léonard from 1986 to 1990 and was elected Mayor of that city in 1990.
