Achimota
Achimota ( ), is a town in the Accra Metropolitan District, a district of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Achimota means "speak no name" in the Ga language Ga is a Kwa language spoken in Ghana, in and around the capital Accra. There are also some speakers in Togo, Benin and Western Nigeria. Achimota School
Achimota School ( /ɑːtʃimoʊtɑː/ ), formerly Prince of Wales College and School at Achimota, later Achimota College, now nicknamed Motown, is a co-educational boarding school located at Achimota in Accra, Greater Accra, Ghana. The school was founded in 1924 by Sir Frederick Gordon Guggisberg, Dr. James Emman Kwegyir Aggrey and the Rev. Alec Garden Fraser. It was formally opened in 1927 by Sir Frederick Guggisberg, then Governor of the British Gold Coast colony. Achimota, modelled on the British public school system, was the first mixed-gender school to be established on the Gold Coast. The school has educated many Ghanaian leaders, including Kwame Nkrumah, Edward Akufo-Addo, Jerry John Rawlings, and John Evans Atta Mills all of whom are former Heads of State of Ghana. Achimota Transport Terminal
Achimota Transport Terminal was inaugurated in December, 2009, with the aim of reducing congestion on the Accra-Nsawam road. The terminal can accommodate 800 vehicles and includes other facilities such as a police station and a clinic. It was started by President Kufour but was inaugurated by the Mills administration. History The construction of the terminal was started in 2004, by President Kufour of the New Patriotic Party. The aim was to reduce congestion on the Accra-Nsawam road, which was particularly heavy between the Apenkwa Interchange and Achimota. The road is used as a major route connecting Accra to other Ghanaian cities such as Kumasi and Tamale, as well as carrying traffic to Burkina Faso and Mali. The project took around five years to finish and cost GH¢1.2 million. The terminal was officially opened on 17 December 2009. The Regions of Ghana constitute the first level of subnational government administration within the Republic of Ghana.
