Overview The locality is located along the Maroondah Highway, near the junction of Acheron River and Goulburn River. It was initially known as Acheron Lower, with Acheron Upper being what is now known as Taggerty. Both locality developed following the discovery of gold in Acheron River in 1870. Acheron Post Office opened on 15 April 1876 and was renamed Taggerty in 1893. Acheron Lower Post Office opened in 1884, was renamed Acheron in 1894 and closed in 1974. The Division of Indi (pronounced ) is an Australian electoral division in the state of Victoria. The division is located in the north-east of the state, adjoining the border with New South Wales. Marysville, Victoria
Marysville is a town, 34 kilometres north-east of Healesville and 41 kilometres south of Alexandra, in the Shire of Murrindindi in Victoria, Australia. The town, which previously had a population of over 500 people, was devastated by the Murrindindi Mill bushfire on 7 February 2009. On 19 February 2009 the official death toll was 45. Around 90% of the town's buildings were destroyed. Prior to the Black Saturday fire the population in 2006 was 519. Alexandra is a town in north-east Victoria, Australia, 130 kilometres north-east of the State Capital, Melbourne. Taggerty, Victoria
Taggerty is a town in central Victoria, Australia, Victoria, Australia. It is located at the intersection of Maroondah Highway and Thornton Road. The Acheron River (Victoria), Acheron River also crosses the highway at Taggerty. At the , Taggerty and the surrounding area had a population of 328. A pastoral run called Taggerty Run was established in 1846. The homestead of the run was called Taggerty House.
