Aces Game Studio
Aces Game Studio (ACES) was an American video game developer based in Redmond, Washington, owned by Microsoft Game Studios. It was founded in 1988 under the name Bruce Artwick Organization Limited (BAO Ltd.) at Champaign, Illinois, by Bruce Artwick, creator of ''Microsoft Flight Simulator'', '' Microsoft Space Simulator'' and also co-founder of Sublogic. Following the purchase of BAO Ltd. in December 1995, Microsoft renamed the studio to Microsoft Simulation Group, moving employees from Champaign, Illinois, to the company's headquarters in Redmond, Washington, where it became part of its Games Group division, which at the time was also co-owner of DreamWorks Interactive. The studio continued to develop its simulation games, acting as the developer of the ''Microsoft Flight Simulator'' and '' Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator'' series. ''Microsoft Train Simulator'' is a 2001 train simulator developed for Microsoft Windows. It was released on May 31, 2001, and developed by the UK-based company Kuju Entertainment. It sold one million units worldwide by 2005. Features Microsoft Train Simulator allows players to operate a selection of trains on various routes in Europe, Asia, and North America. Players need to stop and start the train, couple wagons, and drive the train using the computer mouse, keyboard or a hardware addition (e.g. Raildriver) as controls. Rod Fergusson
Rod Fergusson is a Canadian video game producer, best known for overseeing the development of the ''Gears of War'' franchise, originally at Epic Games and then as head of The Coalition. More recently, Fergusson moved over to Blizzard Entertainment to oversee development on the '' Diablo'' series. Career Early years and Microsoft (1996–2005) Fergusson grew up in Ontario, Canada, and while he had an interest in video games, he thought the industry was too far out of reach for him, though he had programmed his own multi-user dungeon (MUD). GameSpy was an American provider of online multiplayer and matchmaking middleware for video games founded in 1996 by Mark Surfas. After the release of a multiplayer server browser for the game, QSpy, Surfas licensed the software under the GameSpy brand to other video game publishers through a newly established company, GameSpy Technology, GameSpy Industries, which also incorporated his Planet Network of video game news and information websites, and GameSpy.com.
