Accra International Conference Center
The Accra International Conference Centre is an events venue in Accra, Ghana. Other venues include the Ghana Trade Fair Center and the National Theatre, but the Conference Centre is the most popular due to its size and capacity as compared to the National Theatre, and at the same time smaller than the Ghana Trade Fair Centre (which was built to host pan-African events). Ghana Trade Fair Center
The Ghana Trade Fair Center is the largest fairground located in La in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. History The Trade Fair Center was designed and constructed from 1962 to 1967 by the Ghana National Construction Corporation (GNCC). The chief architect was Victor Adegbite from Ghana. The designers of the fair were two architects from then socialist Poland, Jacek Chyrosz and Stanisław Rymaszewski. The fair was initiated by Ghana's first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in order to stimulate the country's international trade and to carry forward his vision of pan-African union. The trade fair center and its first international trade fair was opened on February 1, 1967 by Joseph Arthur Ankrah, the then Head of State. National Theatre (Accra)
The National Theatre was opened in 1992 to spearhead the Theatre movement in Ghana by providing a multi-functional venue for concerts, dance, drama and musical performances, screenplays, exhibitions and special events. In Ghana, theatre as an artistic form has existed for centuries in the traditional dramatic expressions of society, however, the National Theatre Movement (NTM) was conceived around the time of Ghana's independence in 1957 to help remold the new nation's cultural identity. The theatre is governed by the National Theatre Law 1991, PNDC Law 259. The building houses the three resident companies of the National Dance Company, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the National Theatre Players. The Parliament of Ghana is the legislative body of the Government of Ghana. History Legislative representation in Ghana dates back to 1850, when the country was a British colony known as Gold Coast. The body, called the Legislative Council, was purely advisory as the Governor exercised all legislative and executive powers. Accra Sports Stadium
The Accra Sports Stadium, formerly named the Ohene Djan Stadium, is a multi-use stadium (40,000-capacity, all-seater) located in Accra. Ghana, mostly used for association football matches. It is also used for rugby union. Overview The stadium was inaugurated in 1962 by a football match played between Accra XI and Kumasi XI. Originally known as the Accra Sports Stadium, the stadium was renamed after Ohene Djan, the country's first Director of Sports, in 2004 after renovations. Black Star Square, also known as Independence Square, is a public square in Accra, Ghana, bordered by the Accra Sports Stadium and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
