Franz Rosenthal
Franz Rosenthal (August 31, 1914 – April 8, 2003) was the Louis M. Rabinowitz professor of Semitic languages at Yale from 1956 to 1967 and Sterling Professor Emeritus of Arabic, scholar of Arabic literature and Islam at Yale from 1967 to 1985. Background Rosenthal was born in Berlin, Germany into a Jewish family, on August 31, 1914, and was the second son of Kurt W. Rosenthal, a flour merchant, and Elsa Rosenthal (née Kirschstein). He entered the University of Berlin in 1932, where he studied classics and oriental languages and civilizations. His teachers were Carl Becker (1876–1933), Richard Walzer (1900–75), and Hans Heinrich Schaeder (1896–1957). Alibris is an online store that sells new books, used books, out-of-print books, rare books, and other media through an online network of independent booksellers. History Martin Manley founded Alibris in 1997 with the team behind early online book marketplace Interloc, which Alibris purchased. Al-Hasan Ibn 'Ali Al-Barbahari
Al-Ḥasan ibn ʻAlī al-Barbahārī was a Muslim theologian and populist religious leader from Iraq. He was a scholar and jurist who is famous for his role in suppressing S̲h̲īʿa missionaries and Mu'tazilism in the Abbasid Caliphate during the 10th–11th (4th–5th AH) centuries. His books include creedal and methodological refutations against the Shias, Qadaris, Mu'tazilites and Ash'aris. Biography Al-Barbahari was born in Baghdad, Iraq, and learned from the students of Ahmad ibn Hanbal. In addition, al-Barbahari took Ibn Hanbal's views and championed them. Al-Barbahari had several widely known students, including the famed scholar Ibn Battah. Leiden (; in English and archaic Dutch also Leyden) is a city and municipality in the province of South Holland, Netherlands. Christopher Melchert
Christopher Melchert is an American professor and scholar of Islam, specialising in Islamic movements and institutions, especially during the ninth and tenth centuries. A prolific author, he is professor of Arabic and Islamic studies at the University of Oxford's Oriental Institute, and is a Fellow in Arabic at Pembroke College, Oxford. Melchert received a PhD in History (1992) from the University of Pennsylvania. His thesis was later published as a book, titled ''The Formation of the Sunni Schools of Law'', with Brill Publishers, Leiden. Melchert more recently published a book on Ahmad ibn Hanbal, the Sunni hadith-scholar and jurist.
