Abreus () is a municipality and town in the Cienfuegos Province of Cuba. It was founded in 1840. History Abreus was founded as San Segundo de los Abreu in 1840 by Trinidadian landowners during an economic boom of slave-labor sugar cane plantations. Geography The municipality includes the town of Abreus and the villages of Babiney, Carmelina, Cayo Grande, Charcas, Cienguita, Constancia, Horquitas, Juraguá, Matun, Mijailito, Navarra, Nueva Juraguá, San Ignacio, Simpatía and Yaguaramas. Juraguá
Juraguá is a Cuban village and ''consejo popular'' ("people's council", i.e. hamlet) of the municipality of Abreus, in Cienfuegos Province. With a population of ca. 7,000 it is the most populated village in the municipality after Abreus. History The village was founded in 1849 by Tomás Terry Adans as a farm (''Central Juraguá'') and grew around the homonym ''henequenera'', a plantation of henequen that produces and packages sisal fiber, founded in 1923. In 1976 Cuba and the Soviet Union signed an agreement to construct two nuclear power reactors near Juraguá, and the construction of Juragua Nuclear Power Plant, the only one built in Cuba, started in 1983. Named after the village, but located within Cienfuegos municipal territory, it was not completed and abandoned in 2000. Rodas () is a municipality and town in the Cienfuegos Province of Cuba. It was founded in 1859 under the name of ''Lechuzo''. In 1879 it was renamed Rodas in honour of capitán general ''Caballero de Rodas''. Geography The municipality is divided into the barrios and villages of Cabecera (the town proper), Ariza, Cartagena, Congojas, Jabacoa, La Unión, Limones, Medidas, Santiago, Soledad and Turquino. Cienfuegos Province
Cienfuegos () is one of the provinces of Cuba. The capital city of the province is also called Cienfuegos and was founded by French settlers in 1819. Overview Until 2011 Cienfuegos was the smallest province in Cuba (excluding the city of Havana and the Isla de la Juventud) with an economy almost entirely dedicated to the growing and processing of sugar. Cienfuegos (), capital of Cienfuegos Province, is a city on the southern coast of Cuba. It is located about from Havana and has a population of 150,000. Since the late 1960s, Cienfuegos has become one of Cuba's main industrial centers, especially in the energy and sugar sectors. The city is dubbed ''La Perla del Sur'' (Pearl of the South).
