Abkhazian Regional Academy Of Sciences
Abkhazian Regional Academy of Sciences (ARAS), independent scientific and educational organization, was founded in 1995, in Tbilisi (Republic of Georgia), by a group of famous scientists – refugees from Abkhazia. Academicians and Corresponding Members of ARAS are leading scientists of Georgia (Guranda Gvaladze, Zaal Lomtatidze, Zurab Papaskiri, Otar Zhordania, Jemal Gamakharia, etc.), representatives of social and humanitarian sciences, natural and life sciences, technical sciences and modern technologies. The Academy is registered by the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and recognized by the Georgian National Academy of Sciences (GNAS). The Presidium of the Academy is based in Tbilisi. Guranda Gvaladze
Guranda Gvaladze (In Georgian გურანდა ღვალაძე, June 23, 1932 – January 24, 2020) was a notable Georgian botanist, one of the founders of Plant Embryology in Georgia, Academician of the Abkhazian Regional Academy of Sciences (1997), Doctor of Biological Sciences (1974), Professor (1991). Her father Evgen Gvaladze (1900-1937) was a notable Lawyer and Publicist, one of the leaders of the National-Liberation Movement of Georgia of 1921–1937. Zurab Papaskiri (in Georgian ზურაბ პაპასქირი) is a Georgian Historian and public figure, academician of the Abkhazian Regional Academy of Sciences (1997), Doctor of Historical sciences (1991), Professor (1994), owner of the State Prize of Giorgi Shervashidze (1998), owner of Order of Honour (2013). Jemal Gamakharia ( ka, ჯემალ გამახარია; born 10 January 1949) is a Georgian politician. Being a native of Georgia's autonomous republic of Abkhazia and a member of the local legislature since 1991, Gvazava was forced, along with most of the region's Georgian population, to flee the secessionist victory in Abkhazia in 1993.
