Abergavenny Transmitting Station
The Abergavenny transmitting station was originally built by the IBA in 1969 as a relay for BBC and ITV VHF 405-line analogue television. It consists of a 46 m guyed lattice mast carrying the aerials at the top. This structure was built on a 440 m hill known as Gilwern Hill overlooking the towns of Gilwern and Abergavenny in Monmouthshire, South Wales. The band III VHF television feeds were provided off-air from St. Hilary and Wenvoe, both near Cardiff. In 1973 the site was enhanced to transmit UHF analogue colour television. The UHF television feed came via a two-hop route from Wenvoe, via the Ebbw Vale repeater. The 405-line VHF television service closed across the UK in 1985, but according to the BBC's and IBA's transmitter list and the BBC's internal "Eng. Wenvoe Transmitting Station
The Wenvoe transmitting station, officially known as Arqiva Wenvoe, is the main facility for broadcasting and telecommunications for South Wales and the West Country. It is situated close to the village of Wenvoe in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, in the UK. It comprises a guyed mast with antennas attached at various heights. The average height above sea level is for the television antennas. It is owned and operated by Arqiva. The site serves an estimated 1.5m listeners (0.63m households) in the South West of England, and 1.3m listeners (0.54m households) in Wales. BBC Two Wales
BBC Two Wales is the national variation of BBC Two for BBC Cymru Wales. It is broadcast from BBC Cymru Wales New Broadcasting House, Central Square in Cardiff with live continuity provided by a team of announcer/directors. The channel opts out from the main BBC Two schedule. From 5 November 2001 until 2 January 2009, BBC Two Wales was the name of the analogue service broadcasting to Wales, and was the brand used on the digital service outside the broadcasting hours used by BBC 2W. MXR Severn Estuary
MXR Severn Estuary was a regional commercial digital radio multiplex in the United Kingdom, which served the West of England and South Wales, including Bristol, Bath, Weston-super-Mare, Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, the South Wales Valleys and north Somerset. The multiplex closed on 29 July 2013 after the shareholders Global Radio & Arqiva decided not to renew the licence. BBC National DAB is a digital audio broadcasting multiplex in the UK, for a number of radio stations which have UK wide coverage. The multiplex is owned and operated by the BBC and is transmitted from a number of transmitter sites across the country; it only carries BBC radio stations. As of the end of 2017, more than 97% of the UK's population are within reach of the multiplex following the completion of the switching on of a fourth set of new transmitters over the previous two years which had seen the reach increase from 93%. Sunshine Radio (FM)
Sunshine Radio is a British radio station which broadcasts to Herefordshire and Monmouthshire, areas of the West Midlands and South Wales respectively from its studios in Hereford. It is operated by Murfin Media Ltd, and previously by Laser Broadcasting. History Prior to launching the station had a working name of Classic Hits, and the licence application was in this name. Three months prior to the opening, the station rebranded to Sunshine Radio, the same name as the original Sunshine Radio in Ludlow. The station launched on 14 December 2007. A five-minute audio clock was used as a lead in to the opening jingle and welcoming monologue from Station Manager and presenter Mark Edwards at exactly 7am. The station's launch song was 'Start' by The Jam followed by an interview with the then Mayor of Hereford City. Heart South Wales is an regional radio station that broadcasts to South and West Wales from studios in Cardiff Bay. The station is owned and operated by Global Radio and forms part of the expanded Heart radio network of stations. Background Real Radio On 3 October 2000 the Real Radio brand was launched after GMG Group won its first broadcast licence, serving South and West Wales. Following an introduction by Sir Tom Jones, the station's founding managing director John Myers introduced the song "A Star is Born".
