Aberconwy (Senedd Constituency)
Aberconwy is a constituency of the Senedd. First created for the former Assembly's 2007 election. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. It is one of nine constituencies in the North Wales electoral region, which elects four additional members, in addition to nine constituency members, to produce a degree of proportional representation for the region as a whole. History Since its creation, this seat has been a three-way marginal constituency between the Conservatives, Labour and Plaid Cymru. Plaid won this seat in the 2007 election but since then the Conservatives have narrowly held the constituency. Senedd
The Senedd (; ), officially known as the Welsh Parliament in English and () in Welsh, is the devolved, unicameral legislature of Wales. A democratically elected body, it makes laws for Wales, agrees certain taxes and scrutinises the Welsh Government. It is a bilingual institution, with both Welsh and English being the official languages of its business. From its creation in May 1999 until May 2020, the Senedd was known as the National Assembly for Wales ( cy, Cynulliad Cenedlaethol Cymru, lang, link=no). Welsh Labour ( cy, Llafur Cymru) is the branch of the United Kingdom Labour Party in Wales and the largest party in modern Welsh politics. Arfon is a constituency of the Senedd. It was created for the former Assembly's 2007 election. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. Alyn And Deeside (Senedd Constituency)
Alyn and Deeside ( cy, Alun a Glannau Dyfrdwy) is a constituency of the Senedd. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. Also, however, it is one of nine constituencies in the North Wales electoral region, which elects four additional members, in addition to nine constituency members, to produce a degree of proportional representation for the region as a whole. The constituency has been represented by Jack Sargeant since February 2018. Boundaries The constituency was created for the first election to the Assembly, in 1999, with the name and boundaries of the Alyn and Deeside Westminster constituency. 1999 National Assembly For Wales Election
The first National Assembly for Wales elections were held on 6 May 1999. The overall turnout of voters was 46.3%. Although Welsh Labour were the biggest party, they did not gain enough seats to form a majority government and instead entered into coalition with the Liberal Democrats. The election was marked by the historically high level of support for Plaid Cymru, who won their highest share of the vote in any Wales-wide election and, as of 2021, their highest number of seats in an Assembly election to date. The party won considerable support in traditionally safe Labour areas such as the South Wales Valleys, winning Rhondda and Islwyn and narrowly failing to win a number of other seats. Tudno (electoral Ward)
Tudno is the name of one of the electoral wards in Llandudno, Conwy County Borough, Wales. It is the middle of the five town wards and covers the town immediately east of the branch line to Llandudno railway station. Mostyn ward lies to the west and Craig-y-Don ward lies to the east, with Llandudno beach to the north. According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the ward was 5,008. Town Council elections Tudno ward elects four of the twenty councillors of Llandudno Town Council. In December 2017 a by-election was held for a vacant seat on the Town Council, following the death of Tudno councillor Billie Evans. Mostyn is the name of one of the electoral wards in Llandudno, Conwy County Borough, Wales. It is one of five town wards and covers Llandudno town immediately west of the railway line (which terminates at Llandudno railway station). Gogarth ward (covering the Great Orme) lies to the northwest and Tudno ward lies to the east, with Llandudno beach to the north and Conwy Sands to the southwest. Crwst is an electoral wards of town of Llanrwst, Conwy County Borough, Wales. It covers the southern part of the town, with its western border defined by the River Conwy and its northern border (dividing it from Llanrwst's Gower ward) defined by the Nant y Fedwen. According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the ward was 2,118. County council elections The ward elects a county councillor to Conwy County Borough Council. At the May 2017 election, the seat was won by Aaron Wynne for Plaid Cymru, beating the incumbent Independent, Edgar Parry, and the Welsh Liberal Democrats' Baroness Christine Humphreys. Craig-y-Don
Craig-y-Don is a suburb of Llandudno, a coastal seaside resort in Conwy county borough, north Wales. It is also an electoral ward to Conwy County Borough Council and Llandudno Town Council. It is also part of the parish of Llanrhos. History Land near Craig-y-Don was owned by the Mostyn baronets, Mostyn family who built a manor house in Gloddaeth (now St David's College). The present house dates from the 16th century. The Mostyns also built a windmill at Hen Dwr, which later became the Bodafon Mountain Beacon, used as part of a warning system in the Napoleonic Wars. In 1848, landowner Thomas Peers Williams named Craig-y-Don after his home at Beaumaris. From 1850 to 1880, the area was used for sand and clay mining with lime kilns on Nant y Gamar. Mid and West Wales () is an electoral region of the Senedd, consisting of eight constituencies. The region elects twelve members, eight directly elected constituency members and four additional members. The electoral region was first used in the 1999 Welsh Assembly election, when the National Assembly for Wales was created. Each constituency elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post electoral system, and the region as a whole elects four additional or top-up Members of the Senedd, to create a degree of proportional representation. Gwynedd
Gwynedd (; ) is a county and preserved county (latter with differing boundaries; includes the Isle of Anglesey) in the north-west of Wales. It shares borders with Powys, Conwy County Borough, Denbighshire, Anglesey over the Menai Strait, and Ceredigion over the River Dyfi.
