Abbeyside–Ballinacourty GAA
Abbeyside–Ballincourty GAA Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Abbeyside, County Waterford, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club plays both hurling and Gaelic football and competes in both senior codes in County Waterford. The club in its present incarnation was formed from the merger of Abbeyside Hurling Club and Ballinacourty Football club in 1967. In essence, the present club can trace its way back to 1927 when Abbeyside Hurling Club was formed. Ballinacourty Football Club was formed later in 1947. The club still uses two separate names depending on which sport they are playing. The name Abbeyside is still used as the name for its hurling teams, while its football teams still go under the name of Ballinacourty. The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Greg Fives (1949 - 15 October 2008) was an Irish Gaelic footballer and hurler. Born in Abbeyside, County Waterford, Fives first played competitive Gaelic football and hurling in his youth. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. Donal Anthony Whelan is an Irish retired hurler who played as a left corner-back for the Waterford senior team. Conor Prunty
Conor Prunty (born 9 January 1997) is an Irish hurler who plays for Waterford Senior Championship club Abbeyside and at inter-county level with the Waterford senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a full-back. Playing career St. Augustine's College Prunty first came to prominence as a hurler and Gaelic footballer with St. Augustine's College in Dungarvan. He played in every grade before eventually joining the college's senior teams. On 30 March 2013, Prunty was at full-forward when St. Augustine's College faced Scoil Mhuire in the All-Ireland final. Johnny O'Connor (hurler)
John P. O'Connor (1928 – 31 October 2010), known as Johnny O'Connor, was an Irish hurler who played as a midfielder for the Waterford senior team. Born in Abbeyside, County Waterford, O'Connor first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Dungarvan CBS. He arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Waterford minor team. He made his senior debut during the 1946–47 league. O'Connor subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one All-Ireland medal and two Munster medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial on a number of occasions O'Connor won one Railway Cup medal. Neil Montgomery
Neil Montgomery (born 1998) is an Irish hurler who plays for Waterford Senior Championship club Abbeyside and at inter-county level with the Waterford senior hurling team. Michael Kiely (born 2001) is an Irish hurler who plays for Waterford SHC club Abbeyside and at inter-county level with the Waterford senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a forward. Gary Hurney
Gary Hurney (born 1980) is an Irish people, Irish dual player of hurling and Gaelic football who formerly played for the Waterford GAA, Waterford senior team in both codes. Hurney made his first appearance for the Waterford football team during the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship 1999, 1999 championship against cork and immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen.
