A Kind Of Magic (song)
"A Kind of Magic" is the title track of the 1986 album of the same name by the British rock band Queen. It was written by the band's drummer, Roger Taylor, for the film '' Highlander'' and featured as the ending theme. The single reached number three in the UK Singles Chart, top ten in a number of European countries, and #42 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The song is the opening track on the band's compilation albums, '' Greatest Hits II'', and ''Classic Queen''. Recording ''Highlander'' The phrase "a kind of magic" is used in ''Highlander'' by Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) as a description of his immortality. Queen (band)
Queen are a British rock band formed in London in 1970 by Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals) and Roger Taylor (Queen drummer), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), later joined by John Deacon (bass). Their earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and Heavy metal music, heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock. Before forming Queen, May and Taylor had played together in the band Smile (band), Smile. John Deacon
John Richard Deacon (born 19 August 1951) is an English retired musician, best known for being the bass guitarist for the rock band Queen. He wrote several songs for the group, including Top 10 hits " You're My Best Friend", " Another One Bites the Dust" and "I Want to Break Free"; co-wrote "Under Pressure", "Friends Will Be Friends" and "One Vision"; and he was involved in the band's financial management. Deacon grew up in Oadby, Leicestershire, playing bass guitar in a local band, The Opposition, before moving to study electronics at Chelsea College, London. He joined Queen in 1971 on the strength of his musical and electronic skills, particularly the home-made Deacy Amp which guitarist Brian May used to create guitar orchestras throughout Queen's career. The Rock The Cosmos Tour was the second and final concert tour by Queen + Paul Rodgers, promoting their only studio album ''The Cosmos Rocks''. The opening date was recorded for a DVD release. which was released on 15 June 2009. The tour included one of the largest open-air concerts in Kharkiv, Ukraine which garnered 350,000 people. The Cross (band)
The Cross were an English rock band formed in 1987 by Queen drummer Roger Taylor. They released three studio albums before splitting up in 1993. In contrast to Queen and other outside projects, Taylor fronted the band and played rhythm guitar instead of drums. On their debut album, which was mostly recorded by Taylor before recruiting the rest of the band, they incorporated dance influences (similar to Queen's 1982 album ''Hot Space'') which were dropped on subsequent albums. History Taylor formed the Cross while Queen were on break after the Magic Tour in mid 1987. He recruited Queen's tour keyboardist, Spike Edney, but advertised for the remaining musicians who were, when the band was formed, guitarist Clayton Moss, bassist Peter Noone, and drummer Josh Macrae. Magic Tour (Queen)
The Magic Tour was a 1986 European concert tour by the British rock band Queen, supporting the album '' A Kind of Magic''. The tour featured 26 shows across Western Europe and the UK, as well as one show in Sweden and one in Hungary. The two shows at Wembley Stadium on 11–12 July sold out and saw Queen play to 150,000 fans; the second concert was professionally filmed and recorded and has been released several times. The final show of the tour, and the last live show Freddie Mercury ever performed with Queen, was at Knebworth on 9 August to a crowd of 120,000. Afterwards, Mercury made the decision to stop touring; he died five years later.
