A Grande Família (2001)
''A Grande Família'' ( en, The Big Family, italic=yes) is a Brazilian television sitcom created by Oduvaldo Vianna Filho and Armando Costa that originally aired on Rede Globo from 29 March 2001 to 11 September 2014. The show tells the story of a typical middle-class family living in a suburban neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. It is a remake of the series of the same name that aired in Brazil in the 1970s. The family consists of a working father, Lineu, a housewife and mother, Nenê, their son Tuco, their daughter Bebel, and Bebel's fiancée, Agostinho, a taxi driver portrayed as the typical carioca ''malandro''. The family's grandfather, Floriano, was written out of the story after the death of actor Rogério Cardoso. Sitcom
A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, where a comedian tells jokes and stories to an audience. Sitcoms originated in radio, but today are found mostly on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. A situation comedy television program may be recorded in front of a studio audience, depending on the program's production format. The effect of a live studio audience can be imitated or enhanced by the use of a laugh track. Oduvaldo Vianna Filho
Oduvaldo Vianna Filho, known as Vianinha (4 June 1936 – 16 July 1974), was a Brazilian playwright. Vianinha was born in São Paulo. He started in theater as an actor, in 1955, with the Teatro Paulista do Estudante (São Paulo Students Theatre) group. Polemical and combative, Vianinha was part of Teatro de Arena and debuted as an author in 1959, with ''Chapetuba Futebol Clube''. In 1973, together with Armando Costa, he created and directed in Rede Globo de Televisão a humorous series called ''A Grande Família'' (''The Big Family'' His plays ''A Mão na luva'', ''Allegro desbum'', and ''Rasga coração'' were repeatedly staged in Brazil. DVD region codes are a digital rights management technique introduced in 1997.
