AZ (football Club)
Alkmaar Zaanstreek (), better known as AZ Alkmaar or simply AZ (), is a Dutch professional football club from Alkmaar and the Zaan district. The club plays in the Eredivisie, the highest professional football league in the Netherlands, and hosts home matches at the AFAS Stadion. AZ has won the Eredivisie twice, in 1980–81 and 2008–09. In the same season as their first league title, they also reached the UEFA Cup Final, which they lost to Ipswich Town. In addition, the team has won the KNVB Cup on four occasions and one Johan Cruyff Shield. History 1910–1972: Foundation and first years AZ was founded on 10 May 1967 as AZ '67, the result of a merger of Alkmaar '54 and FC Zaanstreek. AFAS Stadion
AFAS Stadion is a stadium in Alkmaar, Netherlands. It is used for football matches and is the home stadium of AZ Alkmaar. The stadium is able to hold 19.478 people and bears the name of a Dutch software company. Due to UEFA's sponsorship regulations, the stadium is named AZ Stadion in European matches. History It officially opened on 4 August 2006 with a friendly against Arsenal. AZ lost 3–0, with Gilberto Silva scoring the stadium's first ever goal. The first Eredivisie game, against NAC Breda, was won 8–1 by AZ with German midfielder Simon Cziommer scoring a hat-trick. AFAS Stadion replaces the club's former ground, Alkmaarder Hout. The European Golden Shoe, also known as European Golden Boot, is an award that is presented each season to the leading goalscorer in league matches from the top division of a European national league. The trophy is a sculpture of a football boot. From its inception in the 1967–68 season, the award, originally called "Soulier d'Or", which translates from French as ''Golden Shoe'' or ''Boot'', has been given to the top goalscorer in all European leagues during a season. Since 1997, it has been calculated using a weighting in favour of the highest ranked leagues. Kees Kist
Cornelis Kist (born 7 August 1952) is a Dutch former professional footballer and manager. He played as a striker, and most notably won the European Golden Shoe for the 1978–79 season. Club career Born in Steenwijk, Kist started his career at SC Heerenveen after coming over from youth club VV Steenwijk in 1970. Two other family members already played at this club: his cousin and namesake Cees Kist ("Big Kees") and the defender Teun Kist. Kees Kist would later mainly appear for AZ'67. He was the main goalscorer of AZ, who during six consecutive seasons from 1976–77 to 1981–82 finished in the top 4 in the league table of the Eredivisie. Together with Austrian Kurt Welzl and the Volendam native Pier Tol, he led the AZ offense to a league title in the 1980–81 season; twelve points ahead of Ajax and also outperforming the Dutch giants on goal difference by +71 against +34. The 1981–82 season of the European Cup football club tournament was won for the only time by Aston Villa in the final against Bayern Munich. Koog aan de Zaan () is a town in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Zaanstad, and lies about 11 km northwest of Amsterdam.
