ATL Rock School
''ATL Rock School'' was a BBC Northern Ireland television programme, part of ATL TV. The programme aimed to highlight new music bands in Northern Ireland. Band members had to be aged between 16 and 21 and resident in Northern Ireland. Judges looked for entries from every style and genre, from pop to heavy metal and everything in between. It was broadcast as part of '' Across the Line'' on BBC Radio Ulster. ''Across the Line'' is a programme on BBC Radio Ulster (92– 95 FM). It broadcasts Monday, 9.30pm to 11.00 pm, presented by Gemma Bradley. It is also known for its popular website at www.bbc.co.uk/atl. Support for Northern Ireland music and musicians in central to the Across the Line editorial brief. Since its inception in 1986 as The Bottom Line, the programme has championed Northern Irish rock music and in particular bands from Northern Ireland. Regular contributors have included Stuart Bailie (who also writes for NME magazine), Phil Taggart (BBC Radio 1), Niall Byrne (Nialler 9), Paul McClean, Helen Toland and Bernard Keenan. For several years Rigsy presented alongside Donna Legge and until early 2012 Paul Hamill presented the ATL Dance Show. Across the Line won gold at the PPI Awards (the Irish version of the Sony Radio Academy Awards) in 2008 and 2009 then the equivalent (IMRO) awards in 2020 and 2021. BBC Radio Ulster ( ga, BBC Raidió Uladh) is a Northern Irish radio station owned and operated by BBC Northern Ireland, a division of the BBC. It was established on New Year's Day 1975, replacing what had been an opt-out of BBC Radio 4. It is broadcast on radio across Northern Ireland and parts of the Republic of Ireland, and on digital television services across all of Ireland. The Tides (band)
The Tides was an Indie rock band best known as the predecessor to Northern Irish band General Fiasco. The band was formed in 2002 by Paul McMillan on vocals/guitar and Paul Quinn on drums. Owen Strathern joined the group as bass player in 2004. Later the band included a live guitarist Stephen Leacock, who went on to play drums in General Fiasco with Owen Strathern. The group disbanded in 2007 due to work commitments and General Fiasco becoming more serious. History The Tides formed in 2002. The 4 members went to the same school (Rainey) in Magherafelt in Northern Ireland. In 2004, The Tides ep was recorded at Manor Park studios with Neal Caulderwood. In 2005, this was followed up with the 'On Our Way' ep. In 2006, they entered BBC's ATL Rock School and won. The band featured on the TV show alongside Emma Willis as one of the judges.
