Associazione Sportiva Atletico Calcio was an Italian football club based in Cagliari and Villasor, Sardinia. It was founded in 1963. The club folded in 2008. History Associazione Sportiva Atletico Calcio was founded in 1963 as Atletico Cagliari and was renamed before ''Atletico Sirio'' in 1996 and again ''Atletico Elmas'' in 1998. Only in the summer 2002 it was renamed with the last denomination. The team has played 10 seasons in Serie D: from 1996–97 to 1999-2000 and from 2001–02 to 2006-07 when it was relegated to Eccellenza. In the summer 2008, after its 11th place in Eccellenza Sardinia, ''Atletico Elmas'' merged with Decimese Aurora & Decimo founding A.S.D. Atletico Decimomannu and so it was dissolved. Serie D
The Serie D () is the top level of semi-professional football in the country. The fourth tier of the Italian league system, the competition sits beneath the third professional league, Serie C. It is administered by the Lega Nazionale Dilettanti and is organized by the Roman ''Comitato Interregionale'' (Interregional Committee), a "league in the league" inside the LND. History In 1948 the three leagues running Division 3 (Serie C) had to be reorganized due to an ever-growing number of regional teams. FIGC decided not to relegate the excess teams to regional championships. Eccellenza
The Eccellenza (, "excellence") is the fifth level (since 2014–15) of Italian football. It is a regional league, composed of 28 divisions divided geographically. All 20 regions are represented by at least one division except for Piedmont and Aosta Valley which share 2 divisions. Veneto, Tuscany, Sicily, Emilia-Romagna and Campania also have 2 divisions each, while the regions of Lombardy and Lazio have 3 divisions. Promotion and relegation After the regular season is completed, the first-placed team for each division is automatically promoted to Serie D. Each division also admits one other team to participate in national playoffs that take place in late May and early June. Eccellenza Sardinia
The Eccellenza Sardinia is the main football championship played on the island. Formerly called Prima Categoria and Promozione, it usually involves the participation of 16 teams. Whoever scores the most points wins the title of Regional Champion and is directly promoted to the Serie D, the highest amateur championship. The teams ranked second to fifth enter the play-offs (with a single final on a neutral field). The winner advances to the national phase, which includes inter-regional play-offs for a place in Serie D. The twelfth and thirteenth placed clubs face each other in the play-outs to decide the team that will participate in the inter-divisional play-offs against the winners of the promotion play-offs to avoid relegation.
