ASEAN Para Games
The ASEAN Para Games is a biennial multi-sport event held after every Southeast Asian Games involving disabled athletes from the current 11 Southeast Asia countries. Participating athletes have a variety of disabilities ranging from spastic, cerebral palsy, mobility disabilities, visual disabilities, amputated to intellectual disabilities. The ASEAN Para Games is under the regulation of the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) with supervision by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Asian Paralympic Committee and is traditionally hosted by the country where the Southeast Asian Games took place. History In May 2000, delegates from the countries in Southeast Asia attending the Malaysian Paralympiad in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia had a meeting and agreed to establish a disabled sport organisation. 2001 ASEAN Para Games
The 2001 ASEAN Para Games, officially known as the 1st ASEAN Para Games, was a Southeast Asian disabled multi-sport event held a month after the 2001 Southeast Asian Games. It was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 26 to 29 October 2001. This ASEAN Para Games was the first edition held in history for Southeast Asia countries and also the first edition hosted by Malaysia. Around 600 athletes participated at the event which featured 341 events in 2 sports. It was opened by the Acting Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium. The final medal tally was led by host nation Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar. The Paralympic Games or Paralympics, also known as the ''Games of the Paralympiad'', is a periodic series of international multisport events involving athletes with a range of physical disabilities, including impaired muscle power and impaired passive range of movement, limb deficiency, leg length difference, short stature, hypertonia, ataxia, athetosis, vision impairment and intellectual impairment. 2003 ASEAN Para Games
The 2003 ASEAN Para Games, officially known as the 2nd ASEAN Para Games, was a Southeast Asian disabled multi-sport event held eight days after the 2003 Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam from 21 to 27 December 2003. This was the first time and so far only time Vietnam hosted the ASEAN Para Games and the first time East Timor participated at the ASEAN Para Games. Vietnam is the second country to host the ASEAN Para Games after Malaysia. Around 740 athletes from 11 participating nations participated at the games, which featured 287 events in 5 sports. The games was opened by Pham Gia Khiem, the Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam at the My Dinh National Stadium. The final medal tally was led by Thailand, followed by host Vietnam and Malaysia. The Paralympic Committee of Thailand (PCT, th, คณะกรรมการพาราลิมปิกแห่งประเทศไทย) is the national Paralympic committee in Thailand for the Paralympic Games movement, based in Bangkok, Thailand.
