APOEL Basketball Club, better known simply as APOEL, is a Cypriot professional basketball club based in the city of Nicosia. It is a part of the APOEL Nicosia, APOEL Sports club, multi-sport club. APOEL is one of the most successful basketball clubs in Cyprus with an overall tally of 11 Cyprus Basketball Division A, Championships, 12 Cypriot Basketball Cup, Cups and 11 Cypriot Basketball Super Cup, Super Cups. History APOEL Nicosia, APOEL was formed in 1926, but the basketball team was formed in 1947. The team's first ever basketball title was the Cypriot Basketball Super Cup, Cypriot Super Cup that won in 1972. At the end of the same season (1972–73), APOEL won their second title, the Cypriot Basketball Cup, Cypriot Cup. Cyprus Basketball Division A
The Cypriot Basketball Division A is currently the top-tier level men's professional basketball competition of the Cypriot basketball league system. It is run and governed by the Cyprus Basketball Federation. Format At present, six clubs compete in the league. Since the 2016–17 season, the six teams play each other four times during the regular season, with the top 4 teams reaching the play-off semi-finals stage. One team (the last one) at the end of the season is relegated to the second division, whilst one team from the second division is promoted. The play-off semi-finals and the championship winner will be decided after three wins. The championship winner, along with the winners of the Cypriot Cup, will qualify to compete in the next season's FIBA's European-wide continental competitions. Kyle Johnson (basketball)
Kyle Johnson (born 31 December 1988) is a Canadian-born British basketball player for the Newcastle Eagles of the British Basketball League (BBL). Born in Scarborough, Ontario, Johnson played for West Hill Collegiate Institute before enrolling to LIU Brooklyn to play college basketball. After graduating from college, he has played professionally in Europe and Canada. College career Coming from West Hill Collegiate Institute in Toronto, Johnson's college career spanned four seasons, where he averaged 11.6 points per game whilst making a Long Island University record 124 appearances. As a freshman, he was named in the NEC all-rookie team. Stephen Ogooluwa "Ogo" Adegboye (born 23 September 1987) is a Nigerian-British professional basketball player who last played for London Lions of the British Basketball League (BBL). Early life Born in Nigeria, Adegboye moved to London at the age of three. He played with the Brixton Topcats of the English Basketball League, before moving to the US to attend Findlay College Prep. Michael Benoît Mokongo (born July 11, 1986) is a professional basketball player who last played for AS Monaco Basket of the LNB Pro B in France. International career Mokongo first represented the Central African Republic internationally at the 2009 AfroBasket qualifying tournament. Zvonko Buljan (born 6 February 1987) is a Croatian professional basketball power forward. A well traveled player, he has played in over ten countries, including in the Greek Basket League and the German Basketball Bundesliga. In 2014, he won both the Slovenian championship and the Slovenian Basketball Cup. Playing career College career Buljan played college basketball for Vincennes University from 2006 to 2008. Cyrille Makanda
Cirill Makanda-Etogo (born 5 May 1980) is a Cameroonian-Russian former professional basketball player. Throughout his ten-year professional career, he has played for four teams in Russia, plus teams in Germany and France before joining APOEL B.C. in Cyprus for the 2008–09 season. The FIBA Saporta Cup was the name of the second-tier level European-wide professional club basketball competition, where the domestic National Cup winners, from all over Europe, played against each other. The FIBA Korać Cup was an annual basketball club competition held by FIBA between the 1971–72 and 2001–02 seasons. The FIBA EuroCup Challenge was the 4th-tier level (it was the 3rd-tier level during the inaugural 2002–03 season), transnational professional continental club basketball competition in Europe.
