ANA Special Operations Command
The Afghan National Army Special Operations Command (ANASOC) was a special forces formation of the Afghan National Army, established in 2011 and effectively dispersed after the defeat of the government by the Taliban in 2021. The ANA commandos comprised only seven percent of the Afghan defence and security forces, however they may have fought in 70 percent to 80 percent of the fighting during the War in Afghanistan. Predecessors Afghan Army special forces date their history to the 1970s at least. There were several elite army units in the 1970s, for instance, the 26th Airborne Battalion, 444th, 37th and 38th Commando Brigades. Urban writes that a unit designated the 26th Airborne Regiment, upgraded from the 262nd Airborne Battalion, was stationed at Bala Hissar fort in Kabul until 1980, but was subsequently moved to Bagram and reformed. Kabul (Persian: ), situated in the east of the country, is one of the thirty-four provinces of Afghanistan. The Afghan National Police (ANP; ps, د افغانستان ملي پولیس; prs, پلیس ملی افغانستان), is the national police force of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, serving as a single law enforcement agency all across the country. The Afghan Border Police, which has facilities along the nation's border and at international airports, is a part of the force. Operation Commando Fury
Operation Commando Fury was a four-day Afghan military operation against the Taliban in the Kapisa Province. Six insurgents were killed and six others were captured. Events of the operation At dawn on November 10, 2007, thirty commandos from the Afghan 3rd Company, 1st Commando Kandak conducted an air assault raid from five Coalition helicopters on a Taliban compound in Mollakheyl village. The commandos captured six insurgents inside of the compound. After securing the compound, the commandos were besieged by insurgents. Utilizing snipers and Coalition close air support, they were able to break out of the compound and continue the operation. Improvised Explosive Device
An improvised explosive device (IED) is a bomb constructed and deployed in ways other than in conventional military action. It may be constructed of conventional military explosives, such as an artillery shell, attached to a detonating mechanism. IEDs are commonly used as roadside bombs, or homemade bombs. IEDs are generally done in these terrorism operations or in asymmetric unconventional warfare by insurgent guerrillas or commando forces in a theatre of operations. Opium
Opium (or poppy tears, scientific name: ''Lachryma papaveris'') is dried latex obtained from the seed capsules of the opium poppy ''Papaver somniferum''. Approximately 12 percent of opium is made up of the analgesic alkaloid morphine, which is processed chemically to produce heroin and other synthetic opioids for medicinal use and for the illegal drug trade. The 209th 'Shaheen' (Falcon) Corps was a corps, or military district, of the Afghan National Army. Its headquarters, Camp Shaheen, was at Mazar-i-Sharif, Balkh Province. It worked closely with the German-led Resolute Support Mission TAAC North, and had its 1st Brigade at Mazar-i-Sharif and a Second Brigade at Kunduz.
