AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic
The AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic (formerly known as the M&M Meat Shops Shorty Jenkins Classic, CIBC Trust Shorty Jenkins Classic and just the Shorty Jenkins Classic) is an annual curling tournament, held in September at the Cornwall Curling Centre in Cornwall, Ontario and sponsored by AMJ Campbell Van Lines. It is one of the first curling tournaments of the World Curling Tour season. The tournament is held in honour of the famous ice-maker, Shorty Jenkins. The total purse for the men's event is $59,000 and $29,500 for the women's. The event was held in Brockville, Ontario until 2015 when it was moved down the Saint Lawrence to Cornwall. The event was created in 1996 by Jenkins and Gord McCrady to "repay the Brockville Country Club for funds used to buy a new compressor, chiller and condenser." 2013 AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic
The 2013 AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic was held from September 19 to 22 at the Brockville Country Club in Brockville, Ontario as part of the 2013–14 World Curling Tour. Both the men's and women's events was held in a round robin format. The purse for the men's event was CAD$45,400, while the purse for the women's event was CAD$18,000. In the men's final, Brad Jacobs of Northern Ontario defeated Jeff Stoughton of Manitoba with a score of 7–5 after stealing a point in the last end of an otherwise tight game. In the women's final, Mirjam Ott of Switzerland defeated Ontario's Rachel Homan with a score of 8–5 in seven ends. Chad Allen (curler)
Chad Allen (born c. 1974) is a Canadian curler from Brantford, Ontario. He is currently the alternate on Team Travis Fanset. Career In 2002 Allen won the Boston Cash Spiel and the Nissan Classic in Brantford. His team was a finalist at the 2011 AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic. In 2002, Allen won the Ontario Tim Hortons Colts Championship. John Epping
John Allan Epping (born March 20, 1983) is a Canadian curler from Toronto, Ontario. He currently skips his own team out of the Leaside Curling Club in East York, Toronto. Career Born in Peterborough, Ontario, Epping was a top junior curler, having won the Ontario Junior championship in 2004. At the 2004 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, his team finished with an 8-4 record, just out of the playoffs. He won the 2006 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship with Julie Reddick, Scott Foster and Leigh Armstrong. He won the 2007 provincial mixed as well, but could not defend his national title. After Juniors, Epping played third for Nick Rizzo until switching positions with Rizzo in 2006, and thus skipping the team. However, in 2007 he was picked up to play third for Olympic silver medallist Mike Harris. He'd only play one season for Harris before joining Wayne Middaugh's rink at second in 2008. Brad Jacobs (curler)
Bradley Robert Jacobs (born June 11, 1985) is a Canadian curler from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He is an Olympic champion skip, having led Canada to a gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Jacobs is also the 2013 Tim Hortons Brier championship skip and the 2013 World Championship runner-up. He is an eight-time (as of 2017) Northern Ontario provincial champion, and one time provincial junior champion. Jacobs and his team are well known for their physical fitness. They have been described as "fitness freaks" and are "embracing curling's athletic evolution as much or more than any other team". Jacobs was born in Sault Ste. Jean-Michel Ménard
Jean-Michel Ménard (born January 19, 1976) is a curler from Aylmer, Quebec, Canada. Ménard is notable for being the first Francophone born skip from Quebec to win the Brier - Canada's national curling championship- which he did in 2006. In 2022 he won the World Mixed Curling Championship. Career While living in Aylmer, Quebec and playing in leagues at the Ottawa Curling Club and the Rideau Curling Club, Ménard also represents the Club de Curling Etchemin in Saint-Romuald, Quebec along with his team of Martin Crête, Éric Sylvain and brother Philippe Ménard. The 2010 AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic was held September 16–19, 2010 at the Brockville Country Club in Brockville, Ontario. It was on the second week of the men's World Curling Tour and the first week of the Women's tour. It was one of two WCT events held that weekend (the other was The Shoot-Out). The total purse for the men's event was $40,700, while the total purse for the women's event was $16,400. The event tested a new positioning of the hack, the starting block for curlers. For the tournament, the hacks were located right next each other, instead of the small gap that exists normally. Kerry Burtnyk
Kerry Burtnyk (born November 24, 1958) is a Canadian curler from Winnipeg, Manitoba. He grew up in Reston, Manitoba. He is a two time Canadian champion skip, and the 1995 World Champion skip. He is currently the coach of the Darcy Robertson rink. Career Burtnyk's first Brier in 1981 would be a success for him. His Manitoba team of Mark Olson, Jim Spencer and Ron Kammerlock defeated Northern Ontario, skipped by Al Hackner in the final. Burtnyk became the youngest skip to win the Brier in history, as he was 22 years and 4 months old at the time. At that year's World Championship, Burtnyk would have to settle for the bronze medal. Burtnyk returned to the Brier in 1988, but he missed the playoffs despite a 7–4 record. He returned to the Brier once again in 1995 where he would win his second Brier with teammates Jeff Ryan, Rob Meakin and Keith Fenton. Richard Hart (curler)
Richard Hart (born October 14, 1968) is a Canadian curler from Pickering, Ontario. He is a Brier and world champion, as well as an Olympic silver medallist. He currently coaches the Mike McEwen rink. Career Hart attended his first Brier in 1995 as an alternate for Ed Werenich. It was his only major tournament experience before winning the 1997 Canadian Olympic trials as the third for the Mike Harris team. At the 1998 Winter Olympics, the team won a silver medal. He left the team in 2000, and joined up with Glenn Howard. Eventually with Howard, Hart would go to another Brier, in 2006 where they lost in the final. The following year, they won the 2007 Tim Hortons Brier and then the 2007 Ford World Men's Curling Championship. As vice with Glenn Howard he placed 2nd in the Olympic trials in Edmonton in 2009 and is a runner up for the past 3 Briers.
