AIR Awards Of 2020
The 2020 AIR Awards was the fourteenth annual Australian Independent Record Labels Association Music Awards ceremony (generally known as the AIR Awards). It took place on 1 October 2020 in Adelaide. The nominations were revealed on 7 July 2020, consisting of sixteen categories, up four from twelve, as was the case in 2019. The four new categories were: Best Independent Pop Album or EP, Best Independent Rock Album or EP, Best Independent Children's Album or EP, and Best Independent Soul/R&B Album or EP. The award for Best Independent Hard Rock, Heavy or Punk Album was split in two, recognising Punk and Heavy separately. For the first time, the ceremony didn't include the Best Independent Artist category. Adelaide
Adelaide ( ) is the capital city of South Australia, the state's largest city and the fifth-most populous city in Australia. Dance Monkey
"Dance Monkey" is a song by Australian singer Tones and I, released on 10 May 2019 as the second single (first in the US) from Tones and I's debut EP ''The Kids Are Coming''. The song was produced and mixed by Konstantin Kersting. "Dance Monkey" topped the official singles charts in over 30 countries and peaked within the top ten of many others, including the United States. The song broke the record for the most weeks at number one on the Australian singles chart at 24 non-consecutive weeks. It also broke the record for the most weeks spent at the top of the UK Singles Chart by a female artist with 11 weeks at the top. When it hit number four in the US, it became the first top-five hit solely written by a woman in over eight years. The song has received a number of awards. Amy Dickson
Amy Dickson (born 1982) is an Australian classical saxophone player. Early life Dickson was born in Sydney. She began to play piano at the age of two, and saxophone at the age of six. She initially played 'some jazz' in her youth, but eventually focused her saxophone training entirely on the classical repertoire. She made her concerto debut at age 16, playing the ''Concerto pour Saxophone Alto'' by Pierre Max Dubois, with Henryk Pisarek and the Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra. Dickson became a recipient of the James Fairfax Australian Young Artist of the Year. She subsequently moved to London, where she took the Jane Melber Scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music with Kyle Horch. She also has studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Arno Bornkamp. Erin Helyard
Erin Helyard is an Australian conductor and keyboard performer specialising in early music and baroque opera. He was born in Gosford, on the Central Coast near Sydney. Career Helyard graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium and was awarded a University Medal. He studied with Tom Beghin at McGill University in Canada for a masters in fortepiano performance. He has a PhD in musicology. Helyard is artistic director of Pinchgut Opera, which he co-founded. He conducted Barrie Kosky's production of Handel's ''Saul'' for the Adelaide Festival in 2017. At the 2020 ARIA Music Awards he won Best Classical Album for ''Beethoven & Mozart Violin Sonatas'' (shared with Richard Tognetti). Richard Tognetti
Richard Leo Tognetti AO (born 4 August 1965) is a leading Australian musician recognised internationally as a violin soloist, ensemble player, leader, composer and arranger, conductor and artistic director. He is currently artistic director and leader of the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) and artistic director of the Festival Maribor in Maribor, Slovenia. Training period Born in Australia's capital city Canberra, Tognetti was already playing the violin at the age of four. He was raised in Wollongong where he began his violin studies with Harold Brissenden, the retired Scottish violist William Primrose and his wife Hiroko who was a Suzuki method specialist. The Wiggles
The Wiggles are an Australian children's music group formed in Sydney in 1991. The group are currently composed of Anthony Field, Lachlan Gillespie, Simon Pryce and Tsehay Hawkins, as well as supporting members Evie Ferris, John Pearce, Caterina Mete and Lucia Field. The Wiggles were founded in 1991 by Field, Murray Cook, Jeff Fatt, Greg Page and Phillip Wilcher. Wilcher left the group after their first album. Page retired in 2006 due to ill health and was replaced by understudy Sam Moran, but returned in 2012, replacing Moran. At the end of 2012, Cook, Fatt and Page retired and were replaced by Gillespie, Pryce and Emma Watkins. The Really Really Really Really Boring Album
''The Really Really Really Really Boring Album'' is the tenth studio and first children's album by Australian rock band, Regurgitator, (credited as Regurgitator's Pogogo Show) and was released in Australia on 1 March 2019. The album was recorded with children's guitars and drums, tracked in a single afternoon in a Melbourne studio, and mixed the next day. Ben Ely said "Kids don't think about things, they just act; they don't think, 'I'm going to draw a fire truck', they just draw a fire truck. There's not very many premeditated ideas." At the ARIA Music Awards of 2019, the album was nominated for ARIA Award for Best Children's Album. At the AIR Awards of 2020, the album won Best Independent Children's Album or EP. Regurgitator
Regurgitator are an Australian rock band from Brisbane, Queensland, formed in late 1993 by Quan Yeomans on lead vocals, guitar and keyboards; Ben Ely on bass guitar, keyboards and vocals; and Martin Lee on drums. Their debut studio album, '' Tu-Plang'' was released in May 1996; it was followed by ''Unit'' in November 1997 which was certified triple platinum. ''Unit'' won five categories at the ARIA Music Awards of 1998: Album of the Year, Best Alternative Album, Producer of the Year (for Magoo), Engineer of the Year (Magoo) and Best Cover Art (for The Shits). Paul Kelly (Australian Musician)
Paul Maurice Kelly (born 13 January 1955) is an Australian rock music singer-songwriter and guitarist. He has performed solo, and has led numerous groups, including the Dots, the Coloured Girls, and the Messengers. He has worked with other artists and groups, including associated projects Professor Ratbaggy and Stardust Five. Kelly's music style has ranged from bluegrass to studio-oriented dub reggae, but his core output straddles folk, rock and country. His lyrics capture the vastness of the culture and landscape of Australia by chronicling life about him for over 30 years. Nicholas George Littlemore (born 6 May 1978) is an Australian musician, record producer, singer and songwriter. As a musician, he is the frontman of the electronic duo Pnau, an ex-member of the art-rock band Teenager and one part of the electro pop-project Empire of the Sun. As a record producer, he has worked with Elton John, Lover Lover, Groove Armada and Mika. From late 2009, Littlemore had worked with the Cirque Du Soleil as a composer and musical director for the touring arena show ''Zarkana'', which debuted on 29 June 2011.
