AIIMS Guwahati
All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Guwahati (AIIMS Guwahati) is a public medical school and hospital based in Changsari (near Guwahati), Assam, India, and one of the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMSs). On 26 May 2017, Honorable Prime Minister Shri.Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Institute. The institute has an annual intake of 50 MBBS students. The academic activity for the first batch of 50 MBBS students started in January 2021. Academics The academic programme for the first batch of MBBS students was inaugurated on 12 January 2021 by the then Honorable Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Harsh Vardhan. The Institute became operational with 50 MBBS students, and is one of the four AIIMSs to become operational in academic year 2020-21. Changsari
Changsari is a town in Kamrup district of Assam, situated on the north bank of the Brahmaputra River. The name Changsari is derived from Tai-Ahom word meaning ''chang'' (expert) ''sa'' (good) and ''ri'' (make), that is, an expert who makes an ill person well. It is a coincidence that the AIIMS is located here. In the Ahom era it was a village of doctors, Changkakati and Baruah. The All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is a group of autonomous government public medical universities of higher education under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare , Government of India. Gauhati Medical College And Hospital
The Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, the second medical college to be established in Assam, is also a health care institution. It provides medical education at undergraduate, postgraduate and superspecialty levels. History Dr. John Berry White, MRCS, a British surgeon of the East India Company, was the pioneer to start health education and health care in Assam.
