AGF Biarritz Open
The AGF Open was a European Tour golf tournament which was played in France from 1988 to 1990. The first event was held at Biarritz Golf Club and the other two at Golf de La Grande-Motte, near Montpellier. Its renewal in 1991 was cancelled due to sponsors being in dispute with the events promoters. The most notable of the three winners was future European Ryder Cup captain Mark James of England. In 1990 the prize fund was £201,358, which was one of the smaller purses on the European Tour that year. In 1988, David Llewellyn set a new European Tour record 72-hole aggregate of 258, surpassing the 259 set by Mark McNulty at the German Open in 1987. Ian Woosnam
Ian Harold Woosnam (born 2 March 1958) is a Welsh professional golfer. Nicknamed 'Woosie', Woosnam was one of the "Big Five" generation of European golfers, all born within 12 months of one another, all of whom have won majors, and made Europe competitive in the Ryder Cup. His peers in this group were Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer, and Sandy Lyle. Woosnam's major championship win was at the 1991 Masters Tournament. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2017. Early life Woosnam was born in the town of Oswestry, Shropshire in England, and his family lived in the nearby village of St Martin's in Shropshire. Christy O'Connor Jnr
Christy O'Connor Jnr (born Christopher O'Connor; 19 August 1948 – 6 January 2016) was an Irish professional golfer. He is best known for defeating American Fred Couples at the 1989 Ryder Cup, helping Europe secure the trophy. Early life O'Connor was born in Knocknacarra, Ireland in 1948. Knocknacarra is a village in Salthill that is within County Galway. He was the son of Elizabeth (née Noone) and John O'Connor. The family farmed cattle and pigs near a golf club. 1988 European Tour
The 1988 European Tour, titled as the 1988 Volvo Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 17th official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. It marked the beginning of a long association for the tour with Swedish car maker Volvo, who became the tour's first official title sponsor. The season was made up of 29 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and several non-counting "Approved Special Events". The Order of Merit was won by Spain's Seve Ballesteros. Mark Mouland
Mark Mouland (born 23 April 1961) is a Welsh professional golfer. Mouland was born in St. Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan, and is the son of six times Welsh champion Sid Mouland. In 1976, he became the youngest ever winner of the British Boys Championship. He turned professional in 1981. By 1986, Mouland was well established on the European Tour, winning that year's Car Care Plan International and finishing 30th on the Order of Merit. He broke his right ankle and left foot in a car crash later that year, but recovered to record the only two top-20 Order of Merit finishes of his career in 1987 (16th) and 1988 (18th). PGA European Tour
The European Tour (currently known as the DP World Tour for sponsorship reasons), legally the PGA European Tour is the leading men's professional golf tour in Europe. The organisation also operates the European Senior Tour (for players aged fifty or older) and the developmental Challenge Tour; the second tier of men’s professional golf in Europe. The tour's headquarters are at the Wentworth Club in Virginia Water, Surrey, England. Bill Longmuir
William George Longmuir (born 10 June 1953) is a Scottish professional golfer. Personal life Longmuir was born in Thundersley, Essex, England to Scottish parents. Despite having lived in England all his life, he regards himself as Scottish and is classified as such for international competition. Longmuir now lives in Thundersley, England. He has four children. Professional career He turned professional in 1968 and played full-time on the European Tour from 1979 to 1993. He never won on tour but finished runner-up three times. He made the top 100 on the Order of Merit every year from 1976 to 1990. Paul Curry (golfer)
Paul Andrew Curry (born 5 May 1961) is an English golfer. Curry was born in Colchester. He turned professional in 1979 and played on the European Tour through most of the 1980s and 1990s. He finished in the top one hundred of the Order of Merit ten times, with a best of 33rd place in 1994, the year he won his only European Tour title, the Jersey European Airways Open. Having lost his place on the European Tour, Curry moved to the United States and won a PGA Tour card at the 1999 qualifying school. During his rookie season in 2000, he made only seven cuts in twenty five outings to lose his playing status on the tour. He made several return trips to the qualifying tournament without success. English Championship (golf)
The English Championship was a professional golf tournament held 6–9 August 2020 at Hanbury Manor Golf Club in Thundridge, near Ware, Hertfordshire, England. The tournament was intended to be a one-off event and was the third leg of a six-week "UK swing" on the European Tour during the 2020 season. The UK swing was created as part of sweeping changes to the tour's schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to the tournament, American John Catlin became the first player to be withdrawn from a tournament due to violating the tour's health measures. Andy Sullivan won the tournament and achieved a new European Tour scoring record at the time, with an aggregate of 257 over 72 holes, beating the old record of 258, shared by David Llewellyn and Ian Woosnam, who achieved their records in 1988 and 1990 respectively.
