ACT Comets
The ACT Comets (also known as the Canberra Comets, previously the Federal Capital Territory) are a cricket team that represent the Australian Capital Territory. The Comets are the premier team of the Cricket ACT who are affiliated with Cricket Australia. In the Domestic One Day Competition The ACT Comets were participants in the Australian domestic limited-overs Mercantile Mutual Cup competition. They did not, however, field a team in the four-day Sheffield Shield competition. Their Mercantile Mutual Cup involvement lasted from the 1997–98 season to the 1999–2000 season. It was found that there was insufficient local support at that time to be financially viable in the first-class and list-A competitions. Jono Dean
Jonathon Robert Dean (born 23 June 1984 in Bathurst, New South Wales) is an Australian former cricketer and current head coach of the ACT Meteors. He was a right-handed batsman. Cricket career Early career Having been raised in his home town of Bathurst, Dean later lived in Sydney, where he played grade cricket for St George and represented the state of New South Wales at under-19 level. Despite this, he stopped playing cricket for several years before moving to Canberra when he was 23. In Canberra, after a chance meeting with ACT Comets player Adam Heading in a pub, he got back into cricket with Queanbeyan. Nathan Lyon (cricketer)
Nathan Michael Lyon (born 20 November 1987) is an Australian international cricketer. He made his Test debut in 2011 and plays domestic cricket for New South Wales. Lyon is an off spin bowler and a lower-order right-handed batsman. Considered the most successful off-spin bowler for Australia, Lyon holds the record for the most Test wickets taken by an Australian off-spin bowler, passing Hugh Trumble's 141 wickets in 2015. In January 2021, Lyon played in his 100th Test match during Australia's series against India. Early career Lyon was born in Young, New South Wales, to Stephen and Bronwyn Lyon. Cricket Teams In Australia
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Ryan Carters
Ryan Graham Leslie Carters (born 25 July 1990) is an Australian former cricketer who represented New South Wales in the Australian domestic cricket competition and the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League. In May 2017, he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Originally from Canberra, Carters played for the ACT Comets in the Cricket Australia Cup as well as Wests/ University of Canberra Cricket Club in the local Canberra grade competition. Carters moved to Melbourne in the 2009–10 season, making his first class debut in 2010 for Victoria. He moved to New South Wales for the 2013–1414 season, and cemented his place in the Shield team with hundreds in back-to-back Sheffield Shield matches at the start of the season. Jason Behrendorff
Jason Paul Behrendorff (born 20 April 1990) is an Australian cricketer, currently listed with Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers in Australian domestic cricket. Although born in New South Wales, Behrendorff grew up in Canberra and played representative cricket for the Australian Capital Territory at both junior and senior levels. A left-arm fast bowler, he transferred to Western Australia for the 2009–10 season and made his debut at state level the following season, playing several matches after injuries to other fast bowlers. Behrendorff has since become a regular for Western Australia, opening the bowling in both the Sheffield Shield and the one-day Matador BBQs One-Day Cup. Jason Scott Floros (born 24 November 1990) is an Australian former professional cricketer who played for Queensland and for the Brisbane Heat.
