ABC Eyre Peninsula is an ABC Local Radio station based in Port Lincoln, South Australia. The station broadcasts to the Eyre Peninsula and western coastal region of South Australia, including the towns of Tumby Bay, Cummins, Ceduna and Streaky Bay. History The station began broadcasting as 5LN in 1987 in a small office on 8 Eyre Street. The first employee was Michael Astbury who was then joined by Peter Collins in 1990. Collins, while also acting as the rural reporter, also was responsible for putting to air a breakfast show. Soon Suzuy Grosser succeeded Collins as Rural Reporter who took over the realms of the program while also providing Eyre Peninsula and West Coast stories to The Country Hour. Paul Devonport then joined as a reporter, who was then succeeded by Tim Jeanes. On air identification at this time was "5LN 1485". This changed to "1485 ABC Eyre Peninsula and West Coast" in 2002. Cummins, South Australia
Cummins is a town on Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, 67 km north of Port Lincoln and 60 m above sea level. At the 2011 census, the town had a population of 719. Cummins was named after William Patrick Cummins, a member of the South Australian House of Assembly from 1896 to 1907. The town of Cummins was developed in 1910 a few years after the first settlers in the area arrived. The railway to Port Lincoln arrived in 1907. The bounded locality of Cummins includes the former railway sidings of Pillana (south of the town) and Wildeloo (north of it). The major industries are sheep farming and cereal grain growing. There was a junction of the narrow gauge Eyre Peninsula Railway within the town. The railway facilitated transfer of grain to the deep-water port at Port Lincoln, primarily for export till operation of the railway was discontinued on 21 May 2019. ABC Radio Adelaide
ABC Radio Adelaide (call sign: 5AN) is the ABC Local Radio station for Adelaide. It is broadcast at 891 kHz on the AM band. It is also available on Digital TV in Adelaide. History 5AN started transmitting on 15 October 1937 with equipment located in the central telephone exchange, and a radio mast located in Post Office Place. The station transmitter moved to Brooklyn Park, already the site of 5CL's transmitter, on 4 May 1944. The radio mast was moved from the east side of the building to the south side in 1952 to make way for a road to the projected new airport. The proximity of the transmitter site to the airport was inconvenient for both operations, so a new transmitter site was built in open fields at Pimpala, at the corner of Sherriffs and Hillier Roads, Reynella, and was opened on 20 September 1961 by the Postmaster-General C W Davidson. ABC North and West SA is a local radio station based in Port Pirie, South Australia, owned by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Its callsign is 5CK and is transmitted on the AM band from high power transmitters situated near Crystal Brook. History The 5CK transmitter station, located around 5 km from Crystal Brook on the Gladstone road, was officially opened on 15 March 1932 as a relay of 5CL Adelaide, the Australian Broadcasting Company's fourth regional station (after Rockhampton, Newcastle and Corowa). Ceduna ( ) is a town in South Australia located on the shores of Murat Bay on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula. It lies west of the junction of the Flinders and Eyre Highways around 786 km northwest of the capital Adelaide. The port town/suburb of Thevenard lies 3 km to the west on Cape Thevenard. It is in the District Council of Ceduna, the federal Division of Grey, and the state electoral district of Flinders. Tumby Bay is a coastal town situated on the Spencer Gulf, on the eastern coast of Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, north of Port Lincoln. The town of Tumby Bay is the major population centre of the District Council of Tumby Bay, and the centre of an agricultural district farming cereal crops and sheep, as well as having established fishing and tourism industries. History The bay was first explored and given the name ''Tumby Bay'' by Matthew Flinders in 1802, after a parish in Lincolnshire, England. In 1840 Governor Gawler renamed the bay ''Harvey('s) Bay'' after one other district's early settlers.
