The Aztec Aquaplex, located on the San Diego State University, San Diego State University (SDSU) campus in San Diego, California, United States, USA. The facility is operated and managed by thAssociated Students of San Diego State University which sells passes for access. Intercollegiate sports The SDSU Aztecs intercollegiate water polo, swimming and diving teams are based at the Aztec Aquaplex. Facilities Constructed on the west side of campus, the site occupies a total of of usable space. The facility is situated between Tony Gwynn Stadium, the SDSU Softball Stadium, the Aztec Tennis Center, three football practice fields and the SDSU Sports Deck. The facility is also just behind the Aztec Athletics Center, which allows student-athletes easy access to some of the top training personnel and weightlifting facilities on the West Coast. San Diego State Aztecs Women's Water Polo
The San Diego State Aztecs women's water polo team is a varsity intercollegiate water polo team of San Diego State University. The team competes in the Golden Coast Conference (GCC) in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The team became a varsity program in 1995, competing without a conference for its first season before joining the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) for the following season. Tony Gwynn Stadium
Tony Gwynn Stadium is the home field of the San Diego State University Aztecs college baseball team. In addition, the San Diego Surf Dawgs of the independent Golden Baseball League used the park as their home field. Stadium history The original stadium was named Smith Field in honor of Charlie Smith, the longtime San Diego State head baseball coach. The stadium was demolished and rebuilt in 1997 at a cost of $4 million, funded largely thanks to a donation by John Moores, then owner of the San Diego Padres. The renovated stadium was named in honor of Tony Gwynn, a Hall of Fame superstar for the Padres. The playing field is still known as Charlie Smith Field. As an undergraduate Gwynn played both baseball and basketball for the SDSU Aztecs. He became SDSU's head baseball coach after he retired from the Padres. Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team's goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep pool where players cannot touch the bottom.
