Azizullah Azmi (7 April 1929 24 May 2010), also known as A. U. Azmi, was an Indian politician who served as member of the 7th Lok Sabha from Jaunpur parliamentary constituency in 1980. He was affiliated with Janata Party (S). Biography He was born on 7 April 1929 to Alhaj Mohammad Nazir at Bakhra village of Azamgarh district, UP. He received his education from Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama and later obtained bachelor's degree in Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) from Aligarh Muslim University in 1956. After obtaining his medicine degree, he established All India Unani Tibbi Conference and served its president, in addition to practicing medicine at Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh Jaunpur () is a city and a municipal board in Jaunpur district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama (translated as, House of Knowledge and Assembly of Scholars University) is an Islamic seminary in Lucknow, India. It was established by the Nadwatul Ulama, a council of Muslim scholars, on 26 September 1898. This educational institution draws large number of Muslim students from all over the world. Nadwatul Ulama fosters a diverse range of both scholars and students including Hanafis (the predominant group), Shafi'is and Ahl al-Hadith. History Muslim Majlis was founded by Abdul Jaleel Faridi in 1968, after he had become disillusioned with the Samyukt Vidhayak Dal. Azamgarh district is one of the three districts of Azamgarh division in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Etymology The district is named after its headquarters town, Azamgarh. Azam, a son of Vikramajit, founded the town in 1665. Vikramajit, a descendant of Gautam of Mehnagar in pargana Nizamabad, had embraced the faith of Islam. He had two sons, namely, Azam and Azmat.
