Azibo Reservoir Protected Landscape
Located at 12 km from Macedo de Cavaleiros and 30 km from Bragança at the northeast of Portugal, the Azibo's Lagoon Protected Landscape it is one of the 30 areas which are officially under protection in the country. Established by Decree No. 13/99 of 3 August, is a protected area of regional interest, partly integrated in the Morais Natura 2000 Site (PTCON0023), it aims the preservation and enhancement of natural heritage in a harmonious combination between the wildlife, the natural habitat of numerous species of flora and fauna, with the leisure and outdoor recreation. With an area of 4,897 ha, is located, almost entirely, in the municipality of Macedo de Cavaleiros, covering the parishes of Vale da Porca, Santa Combinha, Podence, Salselas, Vale de Prados and Quintela Lampaças of the municipality of Bragança. The Morais ''Natura 2000'' Site (PTCON0023) is located in the northeast of Portugal. Azibo River
The Azibo River () is a Portuguese river in the Douro River basin. It has its source in the Nogueira mountains, near the place of Rebordainhos, Bragança Municipality, in the northeast of Portugal. Along its of length, it crosses the Macedo de Cavaleiros Municipality, where in 1982 an earthfill dam was built near Santa Combinha place ( Azibo Reservoir). The Azibo river has its mouth near the place of Lagoa ( Macedo de Cavaleiros Municipality), on the right bank of Sabor River, which is a tributary of Douro River. Macedo De Cavaleiros Municipality
Macedo de Cavaleiros () is a city and municipality in northeastern Portugal, in Bragança District. The population in 2011 was 15,776, in an area of 699.14 km². History During antiquity, the region was occupied by the Celts, then Romans and finally the Arab forces of the Umayyad Caliphate, who dominated the region until the Christian Reconquista. The Romans defeated the local hill tribes, and reorganized settlements in the region, influencing local culture and social administration. Podence is a former civil parish in the municipality (''concelho'') of Macedo de Cavaleiros, Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Podence e Santa Combinha. The population in 2011 was 250, in an area of 14.44 km².
