Azhar Abbas (journalist)
Azhar Abbas is a senior Pakistani journalist and the current managing director of Geo News. Personal life Abbas's father was Mirza Abid Abbas, an educationist who was the former secretary of the Hyderabad Board of Education; he died in 2002. Abbas has four brothers, retired Major General Athar Abbas, Zaffar Abbas, Anwer Abbas, and Mazhar Abbas. In 2008 Abbas's brother, Athar Abbas, became the Director General of the ISPR. BOL Network ( ur, ) is a media conglomerate based in Karachi owned by Shoaib Ahmed Shaikh who also served as the CEO and chairman of the media network. According to Declan Walsh Bol Network was under the auspices of the fake diploma mill Axact. The media group was supposed to incorporate television, digital media, cinema and theater as well as digital media, but when the parent company of Bol, Axact, was unmasked as a diploma mill selling fake degrees Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority revoked the licence that it had awarded BOL, and the network was not even able to start transmission. Based in Karachi, the station is a subsidiary of Pakistan Herald Publications Limited (PHPL), Pakistan's largest English-language media group. The test transmission of the station occurred on 25 May 2007, and the channel went live on 23 July 2007. The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) is a trade union federation of journalists in Pakistan. PFUJ is affiliated with the International Federation of Journalists.
