Azerbaijan In The Eurovision Song Contest 2017
Azerbaijan participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Skeletons" written by Isa Melikov and Sandra Bjurman. The song was performed by Dihaj, who was internally selected by the Azerbaijani broadcaster İctimai Television (İTV) to represent the nation at the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. Dihaj's selection as the Azerbaijani Eurovision entrant was announced on 5 December 2016, while the song "Skeletons" was presented to the public on 11 March 2017. Azerbaijan was drawn to compete in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 9 May 2017. Performing during the show in position 8, "Skeletons" was announced among the top 10 entries of the first semi-final and therefore qualified to compete in the final on 13 May. It was later revealed that Azerbaijan placed eighth out of the 18 participating countries in the semi-final with 150 points. Diana Hajiyeva ( az, Diana Hacıyeva, , russian: Диана Гаджиева; born 13 June 1989) is an Azerbaijani singer and songwriter. She is a member and the lead vocalist of the group Dihaj, which represented Azerbaijan in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Skeletons" finishing in 14th place. Life Hajiyeva was born in Mariupol, Ukraine while the country was a part of the Soviet Union. Since her childhood she was engaged in music, took lessons on a piano and was interested in jazz. Finland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Blackbird" written by Lasse Piirainen and Leena Tirronen. The song was performed by the duo Norma John. Samra Rahimli ( az, Səmra Rəhimli, born 20 October 1994) is an Azerbaijani singer. In 2015, she competed in ''O Ses Türkiye'' (''The Voice of Turkey'') where she made it to the quarterfinals and in March 2016, she became a finalist on the first season of ''The Voice of Azerbaijan, Səs Azərbaycan'' (''The Voice of Azerbaijan'').
