Azerbaijan National Resistance Organization
Azerbaijan National Resistance Organization (ANRO) (AMDT) (Persian language, Persian: تشکیلات مقاومت ملی آذربایجان) (Azerbaijani language, Azerbaijani: Azərbaycan Milli Dirəniş Təşkilatı) was officially founded in 2006. The group defines itself as a part and subset of general National Movement of Azerbaijan_(toponym)#Southern_Azerbaijan, South Azerbaijan and advocates separatism for the Iranian Azerbaijanis as a result of their Pan-Turkism, Pan-Turkist ideology. Advocacy ANRO seeks to regain withheld economical, political, social, cultural and human rights and fundamental liberties of Azeri people in South Azerbaijan, Iranian Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani Nationalism
Azerbaijani nationalism ( az, Azərbaycan milliyətçiliyi), also referred to as Azerbaijanism ( az, Azərbaycançılıq, link=no), started out as a cultural movement among Azerbaijani intellectuals within the Russian Empire during the second half of the 19th century. South Azerbaijan
Historically, the name Azerbaijan was used to refer to the region located south of the Aras River- today known as Iranian Azerbaijan, located in northwestern Iran. The region in the north of the Aras River, which is today called the Republic of Azerbaijan, had not been included within the geographical boundaries of Azerbaijan until 1918. Historians and geographers usually referred to the region north of the Aras River as '' Aran''. On May 28, 1918, following the collapse of the Russian Empire, a group of political activists in Aran decided to change the name of their region to Azerbaijan by calling it Azerbaijan People’s Republic. Azerbaijan People's Government
The Azerbaijan People's Government ( az, آذربایجان میللی حکومتی - Azərbaycan Milli Hökuməti; fa, حکومت خودمختار آذربایجان) was a short-lived unrecognized secessionist state in northern Iran from November 1945 to December 1946.
