Azalea Invitational
The Azalea Invitational is an annual amateur golf tournament. It has been played since 1946 at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. Several past champions have subsequently gained membership to the PGA Tour, including major champion Webb Simpson. Golf
Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. Golf, unlike most ball games, cannot and does not use a standardized playing area, and coping with the varied terrains encountered on different courses is a key part of the game. Courses typically have either 18 or 9 ''holes'', regions of terrain that each contain a ''cup'', the hole that receives the ball. Each hole on a course contains a teeing ground to start from, and a putting green containing the cup. Zack Sucher
Zack Sucher (born October 2, 1986) is an American professional golfer. Early life Sucher was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but grew up in Mobile, Alabama. While attending St. Paul's Episcopal School, Sucher helped the men's golf team secure four straight Alabama Class 5A State Titles from 2001 to 2004. Sucher graduated from St. Paul's in 2005 and earned a four-year scholarship to play for the University of Alabama at Birmingham men's golf team. Professional career Sucher turned professional in 2009 and played on the NGA Hooters Tour from 2010 to 2012. He played on the Web.com Tour in 2011 and 2013 to 2014. He won his first title in July 2014 at the Midwest Classic. He finished third on the Web.com Tour regular-season money list to earn his PGA Tour card for the 2014–15 season. Hugh Royer III
Hugh Royer III (born February 13, 1964) is an American professional golfer and golf instructor. He is the son of Hugh Royer Jr., who played on the PGA Tour for 14 years and won the 1970 Western Open. Royer was born in Columbus, Georgia and spent the majority of his childhood traveling with his father on Tour. Royer received a scholarship to Mississippi State University where he played for two years. In those two seasons, Royer had one tournament win and seven top-10 finishes, and held the low stroke average each year. He then transferred to Columbus State University for his junior and senior years, where his father served as head golf coach. Hurricane Hugo was a powerful Cape Verde tropical cyclone that inflicted widespread damage across the northeastern Caribbean and the Southeastern United States in September 1989. Across its track, Hugo affected approximately 2 million people. Its direct effects killed 67 people and inflicted $11 billion (equivalent to $ billion in ) in damage. Ryuji Imada
is a U.S.-based Japanese professional golfer. Imada was born in Mihara, Hiroshima, Japan. He came to the United States when he was 14 to attend a Tampa golf academy for Asian players. His instructor was (and still is) Richard Abele, who became his legal guardian. Under Abele's teaching, he won several of the top tournaments on the amateur circuit and reached the final of the 1997 U.S. Amateur Public Links. His accomplishments in the American Junior Golf Association led to a scholarship to University of Georgia, where he played for two years and helped the Bulldogs win the 1999 NCAA title. John Engler (golfer)
John Mathias Engler (born October 12, 1948) is an American politician, lawyer, businessman, and lobbyist who served as the 46th governor of Michigan from 1991 to 2003. Considered one of the country's top lobbyists, he is a member of the Republican Party. Engler was serving in the Michigan Senate when he enrolled at Thomas M. Cooley Law School and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree, having served as a Michigan State senator since 1979. Jeff Knox
Jefferson B.A. Knox is an American golfer. Knox is a member of Augusta National Golf Club, where he holds the course record with an 11-under 61 off the member's tees. Knox is considered to be the best amateur golfer in the state of Georgia. Personal life Knox was born in Thomson, Georgia. David Eger
David Benjamin Eger (born March 17, 1952) is an American professional golfer on the Champions Tour. Early life Eger was born in Fort Meade, Maryland. Amateur career He attended the University of North Carolina, and later East Tennessee State University. Professional career He turned professional in 1978, but won only $31,014 in 58 PGA Tour events, with only one top-10 finish. Casey Wittenberg
Casey Wittenberg (born November 30, 1984) is an American professional golfer who had a successful amateur career. Wittenberg was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He played collegiately at Oklahoma State University. He lost to Nick Flanagan in the finals of the 2003 U.S. Amateur. In 2004, he finished 13th at the Masters Tournament, the lowest amateur finish in 41 years. He was the only player in the field to improve his score each round. Additionally, he registered the lowest Sunday back 9 score (31) of any amateur in Masters history.
