Avtandil ( ka, ავთანდილ) is a Georgians, Georgian masculine name of Persian origin meaning "the heart of the motherland". The name was used in the 12th-century Georgian poem ''The Knight in the Panther's Skin'' by Shota Rustaveli. The Knight In The Panther's Skin
''The Knight in the Panther's Skin'' ( ka, ვეფხისტყაოსანი, tr literally "the one with the skin of a tiger") is a Georgian medieval epic poem, written in the 12th or 13th century by Georgia's national poet Shota Rustaveli. A definitive work of the Georgian Golden Age, the poem consists of over 1600 Rustavelian Quatrains and is considered to be a "masterpiece of the Georgian literature". Until the early 20th century, a copy of this poem was part of the dowry of every bride. Although the poem takes place in the fictional settings of "India" and "Arabia", events in these distant lands are but a colorful allegory of the rule of Queen Tamar of Georgia, and the size and glory of the Kingdom of Georgia in its Golden Age. It tells the friendship of two heroes, Avtandil and Tariel, and their quest to find the object of love, Nestan-Darejan, an allegorical embodiment of Queen Tamar. Avtandil Khurtsidze
Avtandil Khurtsidze ( ka, ავთანდილ ხურციძე; born 2 May 1979) is a Georgian former professional boxer who competed from 2002 to 2017. He held the WBO interim middleweight title in 2017 and won the IBO middleweight title in 2011. He also challenged for the interim WBA middleweight title in 2010. In September 2018, Khurtsidze was convicted of racketeering and wire fraud conspiracy and sentenced to ten years' imprisonment, and is expected to remain incarcerated in the United States until 2028. Professional career Early career Khurtsidze compiled a record of 7-1-2 in his first ten fights, before making Ukraine his new home for his next fifteen fights. While fighting in Ukraine, he won the WBA Inter-Continental middleweight title in July 2008 and defended it four times. Avtandil Makharadze
Avtandil Ivanovich Makharadze ( ka, ავთანდილ მახარაძე; born 16 July 1943) is a Georgian actor. He was born in Batumi. Active since the 1970s. Avtandil Makharadze started his acting career as a student at Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University with performances in the acts of his fellow students. His role in the play ''The Merchant of Venice'', where he played Shylock caught the eyes of critics and the public. He worked at Shota Rustaveli Theatre until 1991 where he had played over 50 roles. He had great success in the theater of МHАТ (Moscow Art Theatre), where in 1984, he played the main role in the play ''Collapse'' ( Jaqo's Dispossessed). Avtandil Varsimashvili (Georgian: ავთანდილ ვარსიმაშვილი) is a Georgian theatre and film director. He is the artistic director of A. Griboedov State Academic Theatre and owner of Liberty Theatre Georgia and the director and producer of his private film company "Vars-Studio". Career The collapse of the Soviet Union and wars in Caucasus had a very bad impact on the cultural life in Georgia. Avtandili Tchrikishvili (; born 18 March 1991) is a Georgian judoka. After Tchrikishvilli won the World Championships in 2014, the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia named him the Best Georgian Sportsman of 2014. Avtandil Silagadze ( ka, ავთანდილ სილაგაძე ) (born on February 5, 1954) is a Georgian economist and politician. He has been an Academician of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences since 2013 and was a Corresponding Member of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences from 2001 to 2013. From 2003 until 2008, he was a Member of the Parliament of Georgia.
