Avondale, New South Wales
Avondale is a village in New South Wales. It is located just west of Lake Illawarra. At the , it had a population of 1,653. History In the early days Avondale had some fine cedar trees. A creek flowing through the land grant 'Avondale' became known as 'American Creek' after the American cedar cutters who cleared the land along it. In 1857 some traces of kerosene were found in the creek and shale was found on the mountain. In 1863 Edward and William Graham rented part of the Avondale estate and their brother had shale from their farm tested by the Government Analyst. Avondale, Harare
Avondale is a residential suburb in north and northwest Harare, Zimbabwe, located about north of Harare city centre and just west of Mount Pleasant. It is the earliest suburb established in Harare, having been laid out in 1903. Prior to becoming a suburb Avondale was a dairy farm and was named after Avondale, County Wicklow, Ireland the home of the 19th-century Irish politician Charles Stewart Parnell. Avondale was incorporated into Harare Municipality in 1934. Location The neighbourhood's western border is an extension known as Avondale West that forms part of the Harare's northwest suburbs. Avondale Colliery
The Avondale Colliery was a coal mine in Plymouth Township, Luzerne County, near Plymouth, Pennsylvania in the small town of Avondale. The mine was considered to be "one of the best and worst" operating in Pennsylvania's Wyoming Valley. This colliery was the site of the Avondale Mine Disaster in 1869, which took the lives of one hundred and eight miners and two volunteer rescuers. History Opened in northeastern Pennsylvania during the mid-1800s, the Avondale Colliery was an anthracite coal mine located in the Luzerne County community of Avondale. Leased by J. C. Phelps, a businessman from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on June 13, 1863 from Henderson Gaylord, William C. Reynolds and others, the mine's first entrance was a one-thousand-foot horizontal tunnel which failed to strike a new vein of anthracite.
