Avon Wilderness Park
The Avon Wilderness Park is a protected area in the southern part of the Victorian Alps, located in Australia. Location and features The reserve is contiguous with the southern border of the Alpine National Park and was declared in 1987. It protects of mountain ash and sub-alpine woodlands. Although there are no walking or vehicle tracks inside the park, hiking is possible with the use of topographic maps. The nearest point of access is via Licola. Along with Big Desert Wilderness Park and Wabba Wilderness Park, it is one of three such parks in Victoria, managed by Parks Victoria. Licola, Victoria
Licola is a town in Victoria, Australia, located on Licola Road, in the Shire of Wellington, 254 kilometres east of Melbourne. At the 2016 census, Licola and the surrounding area had a population of 11. Overview The Lions Club owns a large section of land in Licola and operates a youth camp on site, the Licola Wilderness Village, which is immediately surrounded by farm land. The town is the southern gateway to the Alpine National Park. Its main industries are tourism, logging and farming. It has one general store including post office and petrol station and a small number of houses. Protected areas or conservation areas are locations which receive protection because of their recognized natural, ecological or cultural values. Victorian Alps
The Victorian Alps, also known locally as the High Country, is a large mountain system in the southeastern Australian state of Victoria. Occupying the majority of eastern Victoria, it is the southwestern half of the Australian Alps (the other half being the Snowy Mountains), the tallest portion of the Great Dividing Range. Alpine National Park
The Alpine National Park is a national park located in the Central Highlands and Alpine regions of Victoria, Australia. The national park is located northeast of Melbourne. It is the largest National Park in Victoria, and covers much of the higher areas of the Great Dividing Range in Victoria, including Victoria's highest point, Mount Bogong at and the associated subalpine woodland and grassland of the Bogong High Plains. Big Desert Wilderness Park
The Big Desert Wilderness Park is a protected area in the Australian state of Victoria, Australia located in the state's west adjoining the border with South Australia. It is the oldest of Victoria's three wilderness parks. The wilderness park consists of an area of , with no vehicular access, and no defined walking tracks. It includes part of the Big Desert and also adjoins Ninety Mile Desert across the border in South Australia. As it is a dedicated wilderness area, there are no facilities of any kind, including toilets or campsites. However, hiking and small fuel stoves are permitted. The wilderness park is overlapped by the Wyperfeld, Big Desert and Ngarkat Important Bird Area which identified as such by BirdLife International because of its importance for the conservation of malleefowl and other species of mallee birds.
