Aviemore (; gd, An Aghaidh Mhòr ) is a town and tourist resort, situated within the Cairngorms National Park in the Highlands of Scotland. It is in the Badenoch and Strathspey committee area, within the Highland council area. The town is popular for skiing and other winter sports, and for hill-walking in the Cairngorm Mountains. Aviemore (Speyside) Railway Station
Aviemore (Speyside) railway station is an old station in Aviemore, Scotland that closed in July 1998. It was the main terminus on the Strathspey Railway (preserved), Strathspey Railway which is still open as a heritage railway and tourist attraction. The station was built in the late 1970s from components from Dalnaspidal, a station on the Highland Main Line closed as part of the Beeching Axe. When the Strathspey Railway (preserved), Strathspey Railway was founded, British Rail refused access to Aviemore railway station and the company was forced to construct its own terminus up the line in the railway yard. British Rail was the brand image of the nationalised railway owner and operator in Great Britain, the British Railways Board, used from 1965 until its breakup and sell-off from 1993 onwards. The Beeching cuts (also Beeching Axe) was a plan to increase the efficiency of the nationalised British Rail, railway system in Great Britain.
