Avenida Nicolás De Piérola (Trujillo)
Nicolás de Pierola Avenue (), formerly known as Interior de Lima and La Colmena (the latter of which continues to be a common nickname), is an avenue located in the Historic Centre of Lima, Peru. It is the southern limit of the area called ''Damero de Pizarro''. It was founded in the year 1900. History Its journey from west to east covers 17 blocks. It was named in honor of former President Nicolás de Piérola since it was in 1898 during his government that this road was inaugurated as part of the works to modernize the layout of the city. For much of the 20th century it was an aristocratic street in the city, which is still reflected in its republican-style buildings that resemble Avenida de Mayo in Buenos Aires. Nicolás De Piérola
José Nicolás Baltasar Fernández de Piérola y Villena (known as "''El Califa''" ("The Caliph"); January 5, 1839 – June 23, 1913) was a Peruvian politician and Minister of Finance of Peru, Minister of Finance who served as the 23rd (1879 to 1881) and 31st (1895 to 1899) List of Presidents of Peru, President of the Republic of Peru. He founded the Democratic Party (Peru), Democratic Party in 1889. In 1895, he overthrew the Andrés Avelino Cáceres government. As president, he implemented various political and economic reforms. The Javier Alzamora Valdez Building () is located in the historic center of Lima, Peru. It stands at the intersection of Abancay and Colmena avenues, next to the University Park. Formerly the headquarters of the Ministry of Education, it's the main location of the Superior Court of Justice of Lima, part of the Judiciary of Peru. History Construction began on the building on October 27, 1952 and was inaugurated on July 17, 1954 as part of the public works carried out during the '' Ochenio'' of General Manuel A. Odría. University Park is a public park located in the Historic Centre of Lima, historic centre of the city of Lima, Peru. The German Tower (), also known as the Clock Tower () or the University Clock (), is a clock tower in the historic centre of Lima, Peru. It is located in front of the Casona de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, in the University Park at the intersection of Abancay and Nicolás de Piérola avenues. Gran Hotel Bolívar
The Gran Hotel Bolívar is a historic building and three-star hotel located next to San Martín Square in the historic centre of Lima, Peru. Part of a program to modernise the city, it was designed by noted Peruvian architect Rafael Marquina y Bueno and built in state property in 1924 to be the first large, modern hotel built in Lima, and with the specific intent of hosting foreign delegations for the 1924 centennial celebrations of the 1824 Battle of Ayacucho, a decisive military encounter during the Peruvian War of Independence. While the square itself was inaugurated on July 27, 1921, the three-storey hotel was inaugurated on December 6, 1924, by then president Augusto B. Leguía. The Casa Marcionelli was a historical residential and commercial building located near San Martín Plaza, in Lima. The 3-storey building was partially destroyed in 2023 by a fire during a series of protests in its immediate surroundings. The building was named after its first owner, Severino Marcionelli. History The building's area was bought by Italian Swiss businessman and philanthropist Severino Marcionelli (Bironico, 1869 – Lima, 1957), originally from Ticino, alongside his business partner, José Di Luka Hanza Pericevic, originally from Cannosa, Dalmatia. The Plaza San Martín is one of the most representative public spaces of the city of Lima, Peru. It is located at the ninth block of Avenida Nicolás de Piérola, Colmena avenue, within the Historic Centre of Lima which was declared a World Heritage Site in 1988 by UNESCO. Democracy Square (Peru)
Democracy Square () is a public square in the Historic Centre of Lima, Peru. It is located on the former site of the Bank of the Nation Building, which burned down in the year 2000 during the Four Quarters March. The park's address is 1045 Nicolás de Piérola Avenue. In 2023, the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima approved that the square be renamed after Luis Giampietri. The Four Quarters March or Four Suyos March () was a popular mobilization and later riots held in Peru on July 26, 27 and 28, 2000. The march was organized in opposition of Alberto Fujimori's third consecutive election as president of Peru and its last day coincided with Fujimori's inauguration.
