Autoridad Nasionala Del Ladino
Autoridad Nasionala del Ladino (, "National Authority of Ladino") is a national Israeli organisation created in 1997 with the goal of preserving and safeguarding Judaeo-Spanish, commonly known as ''Ladino''. The authority was established in the wake of a law passed by the Knesset on 3 March 1996. It publishes the Ladino magazine ''Aki Yerushalayim'' for the Sephardi community in Israel and the diaspora. The first chairman of the board was the fifth president of Israel, Yitzhak Navon. The vice-president and editor-in-chief of ''Aki Yerushalayim'' is Moshe Shaul. A successor organisation was announced by the Association of Spanish Language Academies in 2017. The Association of Academies of the Spanish Language ( es, Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española, ASALE) is an entity whose end is to work for the unity, integrity, and growth of the Spanish language. It was created in Mexico in 1951 and represents the union of all the separate academies in the Spanish-speaking world. The association publishes reference works on the Spanish language and commemorative editions of Hispanic literature, among other publications. History Through the initiative of then-president of Mexico Miguel Alemán Valdés, the first congress of academies convened with the purpose of maintaining the integrity of and fostering the further growth of Spanish. Hebrew Language
Hebrew (; ; ) is a Northwest Semitic language of the Afroasiatic language family. Historically, it is one of the spoken languages of the Israelites and their longest-surviving descendants, the Jews and Samaritans. It was largely preserved throughout history as the main liturgical language of Judaism (since the Second Temple period) and Samaritanism. YIVO
YIVO (Yiddish: , ) is an organization that preserves, studies, and teaches the cultural history of Jewish life throughout Eastern Europe, Germany, and Russia as well as orthography, lexicography, and other studies related to Yiddish. (The word ''yidisher'' means both "Yiddish" and "Jewish.") The Academy of the Hebrew Language ( he, הָאָקָדֶמְיָה לַלָּשׁוֹן הָעִבְרִית, ''ha-akademyah la-lashon ha-ivrit'') was established by the Israeli government in 1953 as the "supreme institution for scholarship on the Hebrew language in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem of Givat Ram campus." Sephardic Jewish cuisine is an assortment of cooking traditions that developed among the Sephardi Jews. Those of this Iberian origin who were dispersed in the Sephardic Diaspora ultimately became the Eastern Sephardim and North African Sephardim as they settled throughout the Mediterranean in Turkey, Greece, the Balkans, and the Arab countries of West Asia and North Africa. Cuisine of the Sephardi Jews also includes the cuisine of those who became the Western Sephardim who settled in Holland, England, and from these places elsewhere. Moshe Shaul
Moshe Shaul (24 May 1929 – 1 April 2023), also known as Mosheh Sha'ul, was a Turkish-born Israeli journalist, writer and researcher of the culture of Sephardi Jews who worked on preserving the Ladino language. Biography Shaul was born in İzmir, Turkey on 24 May 1929. He made aliyah to Israel in 1949. After migrating to Israel he began attending Hebrew University in 1954, attaining degrees in Sociology and Political Science in 1959. That same year he would join the Ladino broadcast of La Bos de Israel, a subsidiary of Kol Yisrael based in Jerusalem, and in 1977 he would take charge of it after the death of its director, Yitzhak Levy. Yitzhak Navon
Yitzhak Rachamim Navon ( he, יצחק נבון; 9 April 1921 – 6 November 2015) was an Israeli politician, diplomat, playwright, and author. He served as the fifth President of Israel between 1978 and 1983 as a member of the centre-left Alignment party. He was the first Israeli president born in Jerusalem and the first Sephardi Jew to serve in that office. Biography Navon was born in Jerusalem to Yosef and Miryam Navon, a descendant of a Sephardi Jewish family of rabbis, and had ancestry in Jerusalem going back centuries.
