Auto-Trail
Auto-Trail is a motorhome manufacturer, set up by Bill Boasman and Barry Holmes in 1982. Fast forward to 2022 and the company now employs more than 200 staff members at their manufacturing site in Grimsby, North-East Lincolnshire. Auto-Trail is now the UK's leading motorhome manufacturer, offering a wide range of campervans and larger coachbuilt leisure vehicles. History After both working at Astral, Boasman and Holmes worked together at Cosalt in Grimsby, and together built up the caravan division known as Humber Caravan Co. alongside Len Funnell. This caravan division was then renamed Abbey Caravan Company. Boasman left in 1971 to begin working at Mustang. In 1982, after being inspired by American RVs, Boasman created the first coachbuilt Auto-Trail motorhome, the Auto-Trail Cheyenne on the Peugeot 504. Motorhome
A motorhome (or motor coach) is a type of self-propelled recreational vehicle (RV) which offers mobile living accommodation. Features Motorhomes usually have sleeping spaces for two to eight people. Each sleeping space is either fixed or converted from another part of the motorhome's interior, usually a fold-out sofa. A kitchenette area contains cooking equipment. The type of equipment included differs depending on the motorhome make and model, but generally a kitchenette has a stovetop, oven, refrigerator, and sink. More luxury models may also provide a microwave. A small bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet is usually also located in the motorhome. On smaller motorhomes, the toilet may be of the "cassette toilet" type, which is a kind of portable toilet or container-based toilet. Cosalt
Cosalt plc was a diversified marine safety and leisure company, based in Grimsby, Lincolnshire. It was a constituent of the FTSE Fledgling Index. The name ''Cosalt'' was a portmanteau of the company's original title The Great Grimsby ''Coal, Salt'' and Tanning Company. Grimsby or Great Grimsby is a port town and the administrative centre of North East Lincolnshire, Lincolnshire, England. Grimsby adjoins the town of Cleethorpes directly to the south-east forming a conurbation. A coachbuilder or body-maker is someone who manufactures bodies for passenger-carrying vehicles.Construction has always been a skilled trade requiring a relatively lightweight product with sufficient strength. The manufacture of necessarily fragile, but satisfactory wheels by a separate trade, a wheelwright, held together by iron or steel tyres, was always most critical. Peugeot 504
The Peugeot 504 is a mid-size, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive automobile manufactured and marketed by Peugeot from 1968 to 1983 over a single generation, primarily in four-door sedan and wagon configurations – but also as twin two-door coupé and cabriolet configurations as well as pickup truck variants. The sedan/berline was styled by Aldo Brovarone of Pininfarina, and the coupé and cabriolet twins were styled by Franco Martinengo at Pininfarina, with sketches produced in-house at Peugeot.
