Austrocidaria Anguligera
''Austrocidaria anguligera'' is a species of moth in the family Geometridae. It is endemic to New Zealand. It is regarded as being uncommon but is frequently confused with ''Austrocidaria bipartita''. Taxonomy This species was first described by Arthur Gardiner Butler in 1879 using specimens collected by Frederick Hutton in Dunedin and given the name ''Phibalapteryx anguligera''. George Vernon Hudson discussed and illustrated this species in his 1898 book as a synonym of ''Hydriomena gobiata''. In his 1928 publication ''The Butterflies and Moths of New Zealand'' Hudson again illustrated and discussed the species, but under the name ''Eucymatoge anguligera'' following Edward Meyrick's placement of the species within that genus. In 1988 John S. Dugdale assigned the species to a new genus ''Austrocidaria''. The holotype specimen is held at the Natural History Museum, London. Description Butler described the adult moths of the species as follows: ''A. anguligera'' is sometimes ...

Austrocidaria Parora
''Austrocidaria parora'' is a species of moth of the family Geometridae. It is endemic to New Zealand. Taxonomy This species was described by Edward Meyrick in 1884 as ''Harpalyce parora''. In 1886 Meyrick recognised that the genus name he had used for this species had been used previously and renamed the genus in which he placed this species as ''Probolaea''. In 1898 George Hudson placed this species within the ''Asaphodes'' genus''.'' In 1906 George Howes, discussing the species under the name ''Asaphodes parora'', also illustrated it. In 1928 Hudson discussed and illustrated the species again under the name ''Asaphodes parora''. In 1988 J. S. Dugdale placed this species within the genus ''Austrocidaria''. The lectotype specimen is held at the Natural History Museum, London. Description Hudson described this species in 1898 as follows: It is regarded as being variable in colour. Distribution ''Austrocidaria parora'' is endemic to New Zealand. The lectotype spe ...

Austrocidaria Prionota
''Austrocidaria prionota'' is a species of moth in the family Geometridae. It is endemic to New Zealand. It is found in the South Island and is regarded as being uncommon. Taxonomy This species was first described by Edward Meyrick in 1883 using specimens collected at Castle Hill and Dunedin and given the name ''Arsinoe prionota''. Meyrick described the species in more detail in 1884. In 1886 Meyrick recognised that the genus name he had used for this species had been used previously and renamed the genus in which he placed this species as ''Anachloris''. In 1917 Meyrick synonymised ''Anachloris'' with ''Hydriomena''. George Hudson described and illustrated the species both in his 1898 book ''New Zealand Moths and Butterflies (Macro-lepidoptera)'' and in his 1928 book ''The Butterflies and Moths of New Zealand'' using the name ''Hydriomena prionota''. In 1971 J. S. Dugdale placed this species within the genus ''Austrocidaria''. Dugdale suggested that ''A. prionota'' may actua ...

Austrocidaria Venustatis
''Austrocidaria venustatis'' is a species of moth of the family Geometridae. It endemic to New Zealand and has been collected in Southland. Adults of this species are on the wing in December. Taxonomy This species was first described by John Tenison Salmon in 1946 using a specimen collected at Lake Gunn in the Eglinton Valley in December, 1944. Salmon originally named the species ''Hydriomena venustatis''. In 1950 George Hudson described and illustrated this species. In 1988 John S. Dugdale placed this species in the genus ''Austrocidaria''. The male holotype is held at Te Papa. Description Hudson described this species as follows: Hudson recognised that this species was visually similar to '' Austrocidaria similata'' but stated that it could be distinguished from that species based on its morphology Morphology, from the Greek and meaning "study of shape", may refer to: Disciplines *Morphology (archaeology), study of the shapes or forms of artifacts *Morphology (astronomy) ...

The holotype specimen is held at the Natural History Museum, London. Distribution ''A. similata'' is endemic to New Zealand. ''Austrocidaria lithurga'' is a species of moth in the family Geometridae. It is endemic to New Zealand. This moth is classified as ''at risk, naturally uncommon'' by the Department of Conservation. Taxonomy This species was first described by Edward Meyrick in 1911 and named ''Hydriomena lithurga''. Meyrick used a specimen obtained from R. M. Sunley who had collected a pupa from a '' Muehlenbeckia'' plant at Mākara Beach, Wellington, in November and had raised the adult in captivity. George Hudson described and illustrated the species in his 1928 book ''The Butterflies and Moths of New Zealand''. In 1971 John S. Dugdale assigned ''H. lithurga'' to the genus ''Austrocidaria''. Dugdale postulated that ''A. lithurga'' might prove synonymous with ''Austrocidaria prionota''. The holotype specimen is held at the Natural History Museum, London.
