Foreign relations exist between Australia and Sweden. Australia has an embassy in Stockholm. Sweden has an embassy in Canberra as well as honorary consulates in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne and Perth. Overview The relationship between Australia and Sweden is strong, particularly in the areas of trade and education services. In 2007, the two way merchandise trade between both countries totalled A$2.6 billion. According to the Swedish Trade Council, Australia's total exports to Sweden increased by more than 27% to approximately A$445m in 2008 while Australia's imports from Sweden increased by more than 7.5% to approximately A$2.5bn. Perth, Western Australia
Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia. It is the fourth most populous city in Australia and Oceania, with a population of 2.1 million (80% of the state) living in Greater Perth in 2020. Swedish Australians ( sv, Svenskaustralier) are Australians with Swedish ancestry, most often related to the large groups of immigrants from Sweden in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. The foreign policy of Sweden is based on the premise that national security is best served by staying free of alliances in peacetime in order to remain a neutral country in the event of war. In 2002, Sweden revised its security doctrine. Carl XVI Gustaf
Carl XVI Gustaf (Carl Gustaf Folke Hubertus; born 30 April 1946) is King of Sweden. He ascended the throne on the death of his grandfather, Gustaf VI Adolf, on 15 September 1973. He is the youngest child and only son of Prince Gustaf Adolf, Duke of Västerbotten, and Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. His father died on 26 January 1947 in an airplane crash in Denmark when Carl Gustaf was nine months old. Upon his father's death, he became second in line to the throne, after his grandfather, the then Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf. Following the death of his great-grandfather, King Gustaf V, in 1950, Gustaf Adolf ascended the throne and thus Carl Gustaf became Sweden's new crown prince and heir apparent to the throne at the age of four. The Swedish Trade Council ( sv, Exportrådet, or Sveriges Exportråd) was an organisation formed after a parliamentary decision July 1, 1972, in cooperation between the Government of Sweden and representatives from the Swedish business community, through the Swedish Foreign Trade Association ( sv, Sveriges Allmänna Utrikeshandelsförening).
