Australian Wooden Boat Festival
The Australian Wooden Boat Festival (AWBF) is a biennial event held in Hobart, Tasmania, celebrating wooden boats. AWBF is held concurrently with the Royal Hobart Regatta. The festival welcomes wooden boats of all sizes including wooden canoes, kayaks and dinghies as well as yachts and tall ships. About The festival is a celebration of Australia's maritime heritage and also showcases Tasmania's rich history of food and wines. It has a major economic benefit to the island state of Tasmania, with accommodation fully booked during the event. AWBF is open only to boats constructed from timber*, and is widely regarded as the largest event of its type in the southern hemisphere. Indeed, it may be the world's largest boat festival open to wooden boats only. Hobart
Hobart ( ; Nuennonne/Palawa kani: ''nipaluna'') is the capital and most populous city of the Australian island state of Tasmania. Home to almost half of all Tasmanians, it is the least-populated Australian state capital city, and second-smallest if territories are taken into account, before Darwin, Northern Territory. James Craig (barque)
''James Craig'' is a three-masted, iron-hulled barque restored and sailed by the Sydney Heritage Fleet, Sydney, Australia. History Built in 1874 in Sunderland, England, by Bartram, Haswell, & Co., she was originally named ''Clan Macleod''. She was employed carrying cargo around the world and rounded Cape Horn 23 times in 26 years. In 1900 she was acquired by Mr J J Craig, renamed ''James Craig'' in 1905 and began to operate between New Zealand and Australia until 1911. Like many other sailing ships of her vintage, she fell victim to the advance of steamships. Unable to compete with freight cargo, in later years ''James Craig'' was used as a collier and later laid up, then used as a hulk, until eventually being abandoned at Recherche Bay in Tasmania. In 1932 she was sunk by fishermen who blasted a 3-metre hole in her stern. Brisbane International Boat Show
The Brisbane International Boat Show, the largest indoor only boat show in the Southern Hemisphere, is the flagship event of Marine Queensland. The first show was held in 1961.
