John Shaw (sailor)
John Cameron Shaw (born 23 May 1937 – 1995) was an Australian sailor and Olympic champion. He competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, where he received a gold medal in the dragon class, together with crew members John Cuneo and Thomas Anderson. Mathew Belcher
Mathew "Mat" Belcher, (born 20 September 1982) is an Australian sailor and a two-time Olympic gold medalist in the 470 dinghy, who currently competes with crew Will Ryan. In 2011, following World Championship and World Cup success, he and Malcolm Page were shortlisted by the International Sailing Federation for the ISAF World Sailor of the Year Awards. Belcher was selected as the Australian flag bearer for the closing ceremony of the 2020 Summer Olympics after winning a second gold medal and third successive medal in the 470 class. Belcher is regarded as the most successful Australian Olympic sailor in history with two gold and one silver medal, adding to his 10 world titles. Malcolm Page (sailor)
Malcolm George Page, OAM (born 22 March 1972) is an Australian professional sailor and gold medalist at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. Personal life Page was educated at St Andrew's Cathedral School in Sydney. After retiring from Olympic sailing, Page went on to work for World Sailing as Head of Media, before becoming Chief of Olympic Sailing for US Sailing. He then returned to Australia as the Head Coach of the Victorian Institute of Sport Sailing program. He is currently coaching with the Australian Sailing Team. Graeme Martin
Graeme Martin, OAM is an Australian Paralympic sailor. Biography Martin was born on 11 March 1949 in Perth, Western Australia. Formerly a firefighter, his left leg was amputated after an accident that occurred while he was fighting a fire caused by arson at a winery in the Perth suburb of Caversham. In 2000, he won the North American championship for disabled persons in St. Petersburg, Florida with Noel Robins and Jamie Dunross, in preparation for the 2000 Sydney Games. At the Games, he won a gold medal with Robins and Dunross in the Mixed Three Person Sonar event, for which he received a Medal of the Order of Australia. This gold medal achievement was initially the only medal ever won by Australian sailors at the Games. At the 2008 Beijing Games, he won a bronze medal in the Mixed Three Person Sonar event. Jamie Dunross
Jamie Barry Dunross, OAM (born 28 August 1965) is an Australian sailor who won a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Paralympics. Personal Dunross was born in Melbourne on 28 August 1965. A former miner, he became a quadriplegic after an explosion at a gold mine in Kalgoorlie. He cannot use his legs, and has very restricted use of his arms. Jamie had depression for five years after the accident, and his passion for sailing helped him to recover from it. He has two children. Noel Robins
David Noel Robins, OAM (3 September 1935 – 22 May 2003) was an Australian sailor. He began sailing as a child, and became partially quadriplegic after receiving a spinal fracture from a car crash at the age of 21. He was the skipper of ''Australia'' in the 1977 America's Cup, won the 1981 Admiral's Cup, and won a gold medal in sailing at the 2000 Sydney Paralympics. He died on 22 May 2003, four weeks after being struck by a car. Personal Robins was born in Perth on 3 September 1935. He began sailing at the age of eleven. He graduated from Claremont Teachers College in 1955. At the age of 21, he was a passenger in a car crash on Mounts Bay Road, which left him with a broken neck and a fractured spine; as a result, he became a "walking quadriplegic", with reduced mobility and strength in all four limbs. Adrienne Cahalan
Adrienne Cahalan (born 1964) was the only woman competing in the 2005–06 Volvo Ocean Race. She is a qualified lawyer and had a master's degree in Applied Meteorology. Adrienne grew up on the Lane Cove River (part of Port Jackson) in Australia. After learning how to sail as a teenager, she began to race lasers and was a member of the twelve-foot skiff club. Since then Adrienne has been part of the Cheyenne crew which broke the Round the World World Speed Record in 2004; she has circumnavigated the globe on several projects, and has had four World Yachtswoman of the Year nominations. This is all with also having experience in three Volvo Ocean Races (formerly known as the Whitbread Round the World Race) prior to her race in the 2005–2006 Volvo Ocean Race. Magnus Halvorsen (sailor)
Johan Magnus Halvorsen (10 June 1853 – 14 February 1922) was a Norwegian politician for the Moderate Liberal Party. Biography Halvorsen was born at Ålesund in Møre og Romsdal, Norway. He was a merchant by profession. He started his business career as a sales representative at Vanylven in Sunnmøre. In 1874 he became a director at Selje forbruksforening in Nordfjord. He later worked as a representative for several factories and businesses in Bergen. In 1881, he established himself as a merchant in Trondheim with a fish wholesaler. Halvorsen was a member of the city council of Trondheim 1895-1904 and again from 1910. He represented the city in the Norwegian Parliament 1898-1900 and 1903–12. Mark Foy (businessman)
Mark Foy (15 February 1865 – 15 November 1950) was a Australian retail businessman and entrepreneur who established the department store Mark Foy's in Sydney. He also opened the Hydro Majestic Hotel in the Blue Mountains, a hydropathic resort with Swiss doctors and spa water from Baden in Germany. In addition he was a keen sportsman with interests in rifle shooting, boxing, sailing and motor racing. Early life Mark Foy was born in Bendigo, Victoria on 15 February 1865. His father also Mark Foy Snr. had emigrated from Ireland in 1858 with his wife Mary Macken and had gone to the goldfields where he participated in the establishment of various stores. In 1870 he moved to Melbourne where he set up a new drapery shop in Smith Street, Collingwood. This business prospered, occupying three shops by 1875 and six by 1880.
